  1. Thanks man, too bad I dont like big buckles. Ahh well.
  2. Made a simple belt for myself as I figured I shouldnt be wearing some store bought junk lol. Anyways couldnt decide on any designs so just went with a two tone theme. Pretty simple, not the best job and lots of little booboos. Top layer is 8oz and bottom is 5oz, a little thick but the leather is relatively soft and I guess I could allways use it as a weapon or rescue device and not worry about it breaking. Hand stitched and I used tan and dark brown for the colors.
  3. Isnt more common to use that tree that imparts that smell when wetted. I cant remember the name of the tree but it gives that same urine smell and is widely used in southern countries for veg tanning.
  4. Very cool thanks Johanna
  5. You sure its not the leather, depending on what the leather is tanned with it has variouse smells that can be released when it is wetted or dyed.
  6. Hey Johanna you may know, is the picture I added one of Billy's. I cant remember but I think it is, it says Billy on the pic I have saved and it looks like something he would do I just cant remember for sure where I got it from. Thanks
  7. Hey Tracker you got a link or could you upload the full size version of that paper. Looks really useful. I remember the scabbard you posted and that thing looked killer for sure.
  8. Looks really cool, nicely done. So how did you go about doing this with the vinee. If you dont mind sharing.
  9. That is way cool, thanks for sharing.
  10. Ahh ok thanks, that makes sense.
  11. Hey atleast it turned out looking great. Really well done on the wetforming. Did you have any hiccups or suggestions for someone doing the same thing.
  12. Thanks Ill have to give them a try next time. I went ahead and ordered variouse different types to try out and play with from the other place.
  13. Hey Kate I was wondering about the end of the thin strap portion that goes on the neck of the guitar. How do you normally attach those, does it wrap around just after the bridge or is there some attach ment somewhere. Thanks.
  14. Well have to remember that most of the scabbards from those days are long gone so we will never really know what everyone used. Maybe we got a few samples here and there but that doesnt cover what everyone did. Anyways I am no sword buff but do remember reading a long time ago about those swords a little bit and recall that they supposedly werent built with full length enclosed scabbards because to draw them out of such a scabbard you would need like a 10 foot reach or something. Bascially they used similer to what you have because of the plain usuability of it. You could try making a mock one up and putting it on and see if it can be drawn like that, assuming your arm length is similer to the customers. You may find it works in which case Im sure someone in history did it, if it doesnt work Id assume they figured that out as well and didnt do it.
  15. Sweet thanks, saw them while searching around but dont like ordering from places without hearing about there reputation first. Any tips that you can supply for people new to working with webbing?
  16. Thanks Tom, so far its gonna be for my girlfriends canon xsi. Probably the same little metal slots on yours as well. Really annoying because trying to find a snap that is strong and can clip onto those little guys is gonna be near impossible. Maybe make something so that the small portion that hooks to the camera can be replacable if it wears out.
  17. That is some amazing stuff, both in the workmanship but also in the attention to detail for the time era and construction. How do you get that distressed look to the leather. Looks like it has been worn for years.
  18. Do you have to call for it? Its not in there catalogue, they have 5/8" in the nylon webbing was the smallest they have listed.
  19. Just wondering but why is that considered a strap? I thought belts use to be 2" or larger and current (last hundred or so years) they have migrated to smaller and smaller belts both for "style" and savings for the manufacturer.
  20. Hey everyone I need to find out what is best for camera straps. Im wanting to do some leather ones but really need to incorporate some 3/8" webbing to hook to the camera (its about the only way). So whats the best kind (nylon, poly,....) and where do ya all recommend getting it from. I looked at the normal resources but everyone in the leather business is limited to 1" or larger (weaver/zacks/....). Thanks for any input.
  21. Looks pretty cool, just enough color too.
  22. Thats pretty cool. So with those guys you just mount one bag on one side right. Looks real nice and clean.
  23. looks great,
