  1. Thank you for this. You advice got me thinking. The machine came from the estate of machine repair guy. I took a needle out. It's a Muva 120 with a 1.95 mm shank so i'm thinking it's all ready been converted. I found this little chart that compares needle sizes http://ismacs.net/needle_and_shank/needle-cross-reference-chart-round-shank.html. The 135x17 has a 2 mm shank and is exactly the same length as the Muva 120 that I have measured.
  2. Thanks for this. New to machine sewing. I wonder how the round needle does in leather?
  3. The manual for a recently acquired Singer 112W139 call for 126x9 needles which I understand are no longer available. I am told that other models of 112W will take #135x17 needles. Will these work in the 112W139 or what do I need to do to get needles i this thing. Thanks.
  4. My front pocket. Made this as a sampler out of some too thick Auburn Junkyard leather to try it out but liked it so much I've been trying it out for 3 months now. Friend o mine nicknamed it the "TARDIS". Holds money folded once and up to 14 cards with two in the quick access slot. Made from one piece of leather. I also do a stitched version now.
  5. That's looks pretty good. Nice touch with the utility bag on the side. It's a very good construction method project too. They look simple but lots of skill needed to get them just right. I used paracord to stitch my side quiver. which I liked so much, I started using it for knife sheaths and other outdoor gear. I shoot a Bear Patriot longbow. 52 lb at 28 in draw.
  6. This is the servo motor I got for the extra $10. It's a KOBE 600 watt brushless, 0-3600 RPM. Looking for a manual if anyone has any ideas where it can be found.
  7. Thank you. That's exactly the type of work I was looking to do with it. I found a manual for it on line and am finding lots of info. Apparently a very rugged machine that indeed can be used as a single needle machine which is perfect. I don't know what a 126x9 needle looks like yet but that will come.
  8. Thanks. I missed that. It no longer brass. Model 112W139 Thanks farmersracer. That almost identical but with out the walking foot. Very helpful video.
  9. I bought this out of a garage today for $50 plus another $10 for two new sewing tables and a new in box servo motor. It sews. Singer Serial Number W952256 dual needle walking foot. Coated with oil right now. What can it handle? Parts available? Manual? Can you tell what it is missing (bobbin winder?)? etc. etc. Thanks for any help you can provide.
  10. I am a self taught carver. You cannot go wrong with the first 4 books you listed. I have them all and still refer to them 42 years later. Some of the tools listed i the books are no longer available , but Tandy (Craftool) does have a conversion chart (attached). Craftool Conversion Chart.pdf
  11. My kid lives in England. I've text her for measurements just in case someone for the UK doesn't pick this up.
  12. That works. I really do need to break our the basket weave stamps now. I'll bet the liner was easier to do without the pad sleeve stitched on the left side like the last one.
  13. Also http://makesupply-leather.com/ They have a section of very good free patterns in PDF format plus an expanded section of low cost PDF patterns. Most patterns have a very detailed video work-along tutorial.
  14. I'm a longbower (is that a word?) too. There is a section for archery stuff in the forums and I may have a pattern or two if you need something. I do my my patterns and have them in digital format.
  15. Nice "try". My eyes get blurring looking at basket weave, especially the arrow pattern. I made my fist one a while back just to see if I could. It eventually made it's way to Pennsylvania! For future consideration, one thing I did that I found useful was not to stitch the left side of the pad pocket. Made it a lot easier to insert the pad, the pad does not move and it leaves the option to use a notebook rather than a pad.
  16. Brilliantly simple line up jig too which I had seen you post earlier for wallets but could not remember who had done it.
  17. Finished up the order of custom skinner pouch sheaths. Couple carved and a couple plain. All with different color stitching. Carved sheathed are antiqued before final finish coat is applied. It seems that thread color can make a big difference in how the leather dye color is perceived. Thread colors are natural, olive green, dark brown, emerald green. I had one person comment that the plain brown sheath with the olive stitching was a much nicer brown than the one with the natural stitching. Same color.
  18. Well I built a "Hony". Combination Horse and pony. Basically a pony with an extension to make room for my not average gurth. Mine is 4.5" wide because that was the width of the pine board I made it from. Here is the link to the Cam Leaver you speak about http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?cat=3,43576,61995,61993&p=61993 Couple of pics of what it looks like. Fancier than it needs to be. That thumb knob for the rotating head is also from Lee Valley. http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?cat=3,43576,61995,61629&p=61629 Hope this helps.
  19. http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=45740&cat=1,130,43332,43339,45740. I have the "C" version. Going after the "D" next or one of these http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=32502&cat=1,42936,42949 Sharp when you get it. Just strop every now and then.
  20. YOu should try the Japanese Wood carving knives. They cut leather like butter.
  21. I can tell you from personal experience, the Lee Valley hardware is very, very good. You need 1-1/4" legs. I have a digital pattern sorted out for the seat and leg length/hole drilling dimensions if any one needs it.
  22. Bonk, This is a timely find on this forum. I need to make a sheath almost exactly like that for a very similar knife. Are you able to share how you have the loop harness secured to the sheath? Can you show a picture of the back side of the setup? Like that wallet a lot too.
  23. Check out this guy work https://beltwayleatherworks.com Been chatting with him. He uses Henna. Search for Henna Paint Tip on ebay. It's 3 or 4 dollars for a whole set.
  24. Unrelated but valuable information. Thanks for picking that up. Wordpress can be a little finicky with links, dependin on the site. All fixed now.
  25. No problem at all. Flexible and dries clear.
