Loosen the lower screw on this plate behind the stitch length adjuster & take out the upper one & put a 1/4" washer behind this stitch length bracket ,reinstall screw & test.
This happens from not being moved for a long time.Oil oil dries up & can make things like this stick together.I doubt if you'll have problems adjusting it again,I would oil the shaft either it will just make it slip out of time easier.
Is the feed dog lifting high enough it can cause a drag on your material if isn't? You can also check the needlebar by pushing it front to back & see how much play it has, also do this with the feed dog & then follow back on the shafts & you might find a loose or wornout part.
Yes,it's a good machine.Should sew up to 20oz of leather which is 5/16" thick using #138 thread.Parts are easy to get & reasonably priced unlike a Pfaff or Adler.
Looks like a nice machine, someone put a larger handwheel on it which will help it to run slower.@handstitched that type of pedal just sets on the bracket & probably fell of during the move.
I know him,he's been collecting for years & has a bunch of machines I remember him telling me 15 yrs ago he didn't have much room left for more so I supposed these just popped up & he doesn't have room to store them.Good deal for someone!
The answer is NO,this machine was made to sew slightly over 1/4" & mainly designed for shoe repair. It has no feed dogs & uses the upper foot to pull the leather but it has teeth on the bottom that will mark the top of the leather.
It is possible with using just the hand lifter that your not getting the full lift, for max lift you need to use the foot lifter & make sure there isn't much slack in the chain.
We have been pulling the hook on every new machine & checking this screw since we found out that the hook factory wasn't tightening them as tight as they should.
Yes,you just need a spring & nut for alittle pressure so it can grip the shaft, don't oil the shaft where this fastens on or it'll slip & not lift the foot like it should.
I'll have to agree with both the above posts, get the Juki there's more feet available @ 1/2 the price of Pfaff feet & way easier to get them & any other parts you might need.
Jude,
Uwe makes these up.https://uwe.store/collections/featured-items/products/ux441-manual-foot-lift-extension-lever
Or you could just always use the foot lifter which works easier for me.
Alot of times the hole in the end of the needlebar gets elongated, loosen the needle set screw & see if it moves left to right,if so get a new needlebar.Alot of used machines we get in need them changed so it is a common problem.
