  1. Man that sucks. I hate the ' tap & go' shite. Heres an example why I hate it: I went to a bottle shop ( liquor store) got what I wanted, went to pay with savings card, just about to put my card into the machine, and ' beep beep ', " approved" ....WTF ??? The damn machine picked up the 'tap and go' on my credit card that was in my wallet ....in my left hand, a good distance from the machine. Its happened to me a few times now. So, I went to my bank and got the tap and go component deactivated . They are too dangerous an what happened to you is the reason why . But yes, I would warn others and notify your bank as it could be happening to other people without their knowledge , and , they may be able to do a trace back to the offender. There are RFID materials or devices that prevent it happening, but you shouldn't really have to, or alternatively , deactivate the tap & go . Also, some banks ( here in Oz anyway) charge a little extra for that " convenience " . HS
  2. Thats how I run my old Seiko STW , ' formerly' a twin needle . Thankfully I have more than one set of feet . HS
  3. They are turning out to be quite a significant find there chuck Apologies to Fred K , this is his ' rambling' thread HS
  4. Not sure what fossilsed bones look like, but thats what came to mind. The two pieces centre and right have an almost even shape, as for the one on the left , fossilised alien?? Good find though. Any paleontologists on here ?? HS
  5. G'Day, I have almost completed a recipe book cover, front and back for a client using 'hinged Split rings' , (google that) .They come in different sizes , I am using 32 mm . Basically I have made lined hand stitched leather covers sightly bigger than A4 and to accommodate the holes on A4 the pages ( provided) , but no spine. The client can add or remove as many pages as they want. The pic is of a rough diagram that I provided for the client . \ HS
  6. @fredk and they don't have different colours, they all look the f**k'n same , drab & dreary ...and tacky . Kids in school could come up with better designs...and colours. We all use more colours in our leatherwork than they do on a house, crazy!! HS
  7. No, never Don't wish to go too far off topic, but our lives can change in an instant. And as @chuck123wapati said, I cherish the space I have and what I have . I used to live in the southern ' burbs of Perth . I could never go back, it would make me feel claustrophobic , and, in all honesty, the busy crazy cities are f**ked !! Here, I have fresh air, I can see my my neighbors , but they are at a distance* . Its damn cold in Winter, stinking hot in summer, but I wouldn't change it for all the ' tea & china' . Apart from the utilities, govt. charges etc. nothing is owed, its all paid off. Not something too many people can state considering the misery people are facing when it comes to those stuck in a endless grind stone of debt,( monster) mortgages, high cost of living and so on. * the houses in Perth are now built so close together , you could literally jump from one roof to the other. " Little boxes on the hill side" My 2 cents worth...+ tax HS
  8. I've often thought about getting a metal detector and just go around my property , just out of general interest, might find some of the tools Dad lost over the years, lol I enjoyed Time Team when Tony Robinson and the other regulars were on it.One of the TV series I really enjoyed was ' Worst Jobs In History ' hosted by Tony Robinson. He takes a hands on approach and gets involved . Some jobs were just totally gross, and some were just down right dangerous. The safety skiver is what I use, haven't really needed anything else. HS
  9. Stunning work You'd do really well selling those in the ' Top End' of Oz, ....no demand here in my part in the south . HS
  10. You did good on all of it Love the weave and the border patterns , they really stand out . Well done Do you mind if I try the weave pattern? Just courtesy to ask. HS
  11. I agree, and As @Northmount touched on,, I use sheep skin ( with fleece) for applying dyes, and oils as an alternative to daubers . Sheep skin off cuts often come free when I go to my leather supplier . But the other sheep skin leather, nappa, quite soft, can be used for an assortment of leather goods. Sheep skins , with fleece on, are often used for many other uses as well, like ugg boots, slippers , seat covers, floor rugs etc. HS
  12. It might need a wash & polish as well. Just take your time it'll work out just fine. . I'm still working on my ol Grey Fergy TEA 20 tractor. Had to postpone completion for a while, but back onto it now. I think I described it as a 'slow moving jigsaw puzzle' , once piece at a time. Good luck , you'll get there This is where I so love Mother Nature. I pay close attention to the changing of the seasons. Its just starting to warm up just a little bit here , and I guess its will start to cool down over there. HS
  13. The soft stuff could be used for gloves, hats, and assorted accessories etc. HS
  14. Its very sweet, more like a liqueur than a spirit . Some bourbons have honey and /or spices mixed in, they too can be very sweet. Original recipes are my palate HS
  15. @Frodo The pic bottom right, looks like something I have done with binding on horse rugs( I don't have a binder) . Sew the edges together on the inside, fold right over and sew outside. Whatever you've done, it looks very neat As for 'what is this called'....dunno....binding? Nice colours too. HS
  16. Quite a good find for $6.00 HS
  17. @stevoo Have you thought about buying another one (if at all available) just for parts? A ' wrecker', if you can find one There are a few (old) threads on here regarding Junker & Ruh SD28 parts but are now closed. Is this of any use: http://www.supermanuals.com/downloadmanual.php?lang=en&iddocument=D8pdq6qshe& It references Junker & Ruh SD28. Good luck in your search. HS
  18. You have done some great work. The gold on black really stands out beautifully . Horse gear and harness work is what I wanted to work on after seeing harness work on a x 4 horse drawn wagon promoting beer many years ago . A bit too late to start now. Well done HS
  19. I've nailed it After fiddling about with a template using a martingale as a guide , I realised I could utilise cutting dies ..with a large hammer. It was a ' DUH ' moment. So much easier and quicker too. I can use any cutting die I want, make the ' curves' any shape I want, as far apart or as close as I want, and I can round off the edges on the sander, simple. The first belts I made I kept simple until I was confident about making the blanks, didn't want to use ex$y concho's just yet.Not bad for a first attempt . HS
  20. I do these quite a bit. They are fiddly, but they can be stitched back into place. Glue is useless, especially if the tack is satched in NF oil . I slot the end of the keeper back in place , ( open it up , if need be) and put a few stitches in, not just one side, but both sides. Otherwise, guaranteed the other side will fail shortly after . HS
  21. Today I made a few scalloped belts with concho's , don't look to bad either, and....I found a brilliant way of making the curvy bits , after messing around with a template...it was a ' duh , why didn't I think of that before' moment. I had to get the labour time down. I'll put together a few pics tomorrow While you can feel the difference, it does hold its shape, but since pieces have been cut out, it won't be as strong as a normal straight belt , if that makes sense. HS
  22. ... 1 HP and they have 4 on the floor , Ha !! You could compromise and make the straps removable? Just a thought. HS
  23. ....and all washed down with a nice dark ale, and I don't care what time of day it is I have a good rapport with the local supermarket owner, I have done leather stuff for him in the past. Every so often he'll give me a new beer to try out, a freebie ...or two from a supplier, and I give him a nice ale or two at Christmas Only this time he gave me a whole bottle of peanut whisky . Its delish, but a little sweet for my palate, so I added some dry ginger ale to it , Whacko !!! The last ale he gave me was a nice dark chocolate ale, just one 600ml can almost had me on my a***se HS
