Don't know if this would work, but the first thing that pops in my mind is Velcro.

I created a stamping jig out of heavy cardboard/pressboard the with big enough to fit my stamps. Clamp it to the piece with clip binders. Line up scribed on the jig. Use light pressure to check my alignment, press firmly and ..... whack! Just a tip, it may seem like if you hold it close to the piece and hold with a death grip it will go better. For me not so much. Firm grip near the top is all I need. Hope it helps.

Why make satchel back and top closure out of two pieces?
Grumpymann replied to geargarcon's topic in How Do I Do That?
I can't speak for anyone else but me. I make a lot of bags and for me it's to make the best use of the material at hand. Longer runs are not always possible and I sometimes can get 3 bags out of multiple pieces where I can only get one if I did the back and flap in one run. I've had a few comments about it in the past. I'm thinking about fancying it up a bit so it looks like a fashion move. Hope this helps. -
Ruined My First Project!! Or, Help Me Fix It Please:-)
Grumpymann replied to MarkInKy's topic in How Do I Do That?
I had the same problem (still am really) for me it came from the finish soaking through and pooling. I had to change the way spread it on the back side of the project. -
Wish someone would have told me this a long time ago!

Got a round knife awhile a go. And had 2 skivers sitting around as well. The skivers were KILLING me time wise, the round knife was scareing me. Long story short I will take 2 minutes hacking away with the round knife (and call it practice so I can get good one day) as apposed to 10 minutes and just being " good enough ". To me I need the practice and my costumers deserve more than "good enough". IMHO try the option that will expand your skill and gives you more than a one use tool. YouTube and a strop can work wonders. Anyway you choose to go good luck.

Never thought of it but I'm sure they are.

I got a cheep round knife on amazon I practice sharpening an edge and cutting with it. And after a few projects it and a Japanese skiving knife for long runs they are the things I most use. I have a few craft knives I use for fine detail but they are rarely in use as of late.

For cutting I use a piece of conveyor belt cast off. I called a place that makes them a few months ago and they said come on over and pick up some any time I wanted. Free is my best price to pay and the one I have has lasted me a few YEARS!

What to put on work surface?? (plywood)

I got my hands on some conveyor belt cast offs a number of years ago and it works GREAT! -
Are you digging in the board a lot. I THOUGHT I was having the same problem. But I moved from dull disposable bladed cutter to a sharp round knife. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. I would hone the blade make a few cuts and suddenly I was bogged down and had to hone it again. Or so I thought I was used to a dull blade and I was applying a lot of downward force and the blade was gouging into my mat material. I solved it by training myself to use a sharp knife. I still dig in every once in a while but at least I know how to fix it. Pull out the blade and cut again.

There Are Some Good Tandy People Out There!
Grumpymann replied to Sheilajeanne's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Never had a problem with the staff. All I have met are top notch in customer service OR leather working. And over the years I have met a FEW who were BOTH. The company on the other hand... the quality of the goods... ESPECAILY the prices! .... If you can't say anything nice .... -
Just a quick question. Are you cutting on a thick Mat? Is there a slash in the mat under your leather? If so I may have the answer to your dilemma.....

Never thought I would be here. But I have a line on a Singer 29-4 leather sewing machine. I do a lot of smaller items. Phone cases, Messenger bags and the like. I was wondering if it not only was a good fit for what I'm doing but if it was a good deal. i.e. worth the price I'm paying up front and if the things I need to put it in working order are avable with out taking out a mortgage. I want to start out knowing if the machine is a good fir for what I'm doing. What kinds of things is a 29-4 treadle machine good for?

Rest In Peace Dear Friend- RaySouth

RIP Ray. The first person that talked to me on the board. Had a nice conversation. -
Will get you a sketch tomorrow. But I had to toss this out. Think of making 2 bags and devising a secure system to connect them? I did that with one shoulder bag that I attached my tablet to the outside so I could snap it on and snatch it off easily. I also made a system that I could attach 1 of 3 accessories pouches to the main bag. (LOL I have a snap on system that I can attach my tablet to anything from a hand held board, a stand, elastic band to strap it to my palm. And another where I can change the face of the tablet case from business to party.) Just something to think about.

Simple riveted handbag
Grumpymann replied to Wedgetail's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
The beauty of simplicity is stunning. If your willing to share the pattern let me be the first to toss my hat in the ring. -
That is an AWSOME find!

I would think that would be a bit much but done right it would look really cool! Did you think of adding a bigger D or O ring with a LAGER attachment crossing the gusset from the front of the bag to the back distributing the weight and taking it low down towards the bottom. Or adding a system attaching spanning FRONT gusset and back with straps that connect to a single ring ABOVE the bag and THEN attaching the strap. Like a triangle? Also you could have a WIDE bels (Like a weightlifters belt ) that runs under the bag and the so the weight sits in it like a cradle. Then attaching it to the bag? I was thinking about the bulk it will be pretty big have you thought about adding some buckles and belt straps so you could collapse some of the sections when not in use? I know that this is a lot of words I can draw up a sketch if you like.
