  1. A Camelbak is made for the job. As for "remodelling" a goon bag? That might cause a problem with a split seam down the track.
  2. I think its called gold leaf stamping or gold foiling. Try a google search.
  3. Even with all their inadequacies and poor quality leather, I still wish we had a Tandy somewhere closer than 4000kms.
  4. He agrees with me! How did that happen??
  5. @Jake907 Is the turpentine used here, pure gum turpentine or regular "clean out paint brushes" turpentine?
  6. I believe a stitching horse is a bigger unit, possibly with a built-in seat, whereas a pony is a smaller clamping/holding device. The pony is more suitable for a tabletop or held between your legs. A clam is a simple clamping deveice that might or might not have any sort of fixing to hold it (like the horse or pony). Of course, there is a huge possibility I am totally wrong in everything.
  7. No idea of the species, sorry. I obtained the leather from a salvage store that purchased a job-lot from the tannery. Tannery is over 700kms away, so I can't drop in to ask them!
  8. I was interested to see what you had, that's why I let you know your pics had not come through. Plus you asked ... so I did. Attitude not required, but thank you for the pics.

  11. When I was about 12 years old, I had a teacher for one class (maybe 2 hours one day) that I never saw again. In that class we did some leather work. In retrospect, I can now see he knew very little about leatherwork, but he was a very good inspirational teacher. That man instilled in me, a love of leatherwork that has lasted 42 years and counting. It has been fragmented by life and things getting in the way, but the basic wish to produce things in leather has stayed with me for all these years. I say give it your best shot. If my assessment of a person (that's you) is correct, you are an amazing teacher who will leave a lot of students with a lifelong memory which they can build on if they wish. Good luck with your fight.

ROFLMAO So glad no other people are afflicted!
  13. Oh well, you do very neat work, no matter about your age. Is the sheath knife of your own making?
  14. I'm not sure of your age, but way better than my 1st project when I was 12years old ... and several projects since! Well done.
  15. Watching with interest because my supplier charged me $75AUS for this type of binder attachment in 1inch, for my machine, which is a copy of a Consew 227r. I was going to get other sizes, but not at $75 a hit!
  16. I see nothing. That's what I think.
  17. My toad skins arrived. They look great. I need to think of something to make with them. Maybe some inlays for larger items ... I have a few the same colour, so maybe some thing like your prize-winner there, which looks awesome!
  18. There are a few different styles on the website, it really depends on what you prefer. I saw recently, a guy who wanted to use very thin leather to reduce the bulk. I think kangaroo around 1.0 - 1.5mm was suggested. Some other person suggested goat around the same thickness.

An Egyptian oroburos on a mallet with Nordic runes? Is that a little strange ... or is it just me?
  20. I use a cardboard box for my spray booth. I hooked up a computer fan through the back to take fumes away. It sort of works ... a little bit. I was told the only way to go for stamping was a 35 - 40 mm (or heavier) marble or granite slab. Nothing available in my area that I could find, but I did find some 20mm marble tiles. Local tile shop was throwing out some damaged bags of tile adhesive ... so I now have a few ~40mm laminated marble surfaces, around 400 x 400mm, that are stronger than the real stuff because the flaws don't go all the way through.
  21. Do you have any pics? Any idea of the postage to postcode 6168 Western Australia? Thanx.
  22. Same here, I have been motivated to get some things sorted. Mostly moving out the rubbish so I can actually see my workshop, and set up an area where I can actually work.
  23. Where can I buy a nuclear powered heated edge tool? My sins are stacked up like Mount Everest!
