Sewing machine with removable flat bed
Rockoboy replied to Rockoboy's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I looked around to see what other people were using, and/or possibly buy something already assembled. Unfortunately I was not able to find much (Obviously I was looking in all the wrong places), so that's why I made my own design. Hi Daniel, Is the suggested pattern for your table going to be a similar size as your pic above? Is something that small going to be helpful or hindrance? -
'Time enough for love'. 'The cat who walk through walls' is a close second.

It's a lubricant similar to WD-40, RP7, Ballistol, C-RC etc. It does not attract dust, displaces moisture, penetrates and lubricates against rust etc. It comes in spray can or half gallon, gallon bottle or larger.

When I had my new 227R copy delivered and setup, the machine service guy recommended Inox spray. I think Inox is known the whole world over. Does any body have any thoughts on this lubricant?

Sewing machine with removable flat bed
Rockoboy replied to Rockoboy's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanx guys. It does work just fine. As for v.2.0 ... I have installed T-nuts for binder attachments (which do not show up very well in the pic), so there is nothing I can think of right now, that I would do differently. Maybe I will round over all the external edges, that's about all. -
I started with canvas, I think its about 12oz, to learn how to sew with my new Protek TY8B cylinder arm (227R copy). Without changing a thing, I went from the canvas to 5mm of vegtan + 2mm of chrome tan with no problem. I made a removable flat table in case I feel the need for it, but the cylinder arm is doing me well so far.

Maybe your question is too obtuse for folks hereabouts. Personally, I got nothing!

Thanks, sorry but I dont understand what do you mean ? I think he means 'your work is so good, you will be selling these items on Alibaba soon'.- 9 replies

Have you looked at metallic effects from Dulux Paints? I am not sure if it will do what you are after, but ... cut out your insert, apply the effect, 24hours to dry, stitch the insert.

I think you answered your own question there.

I don't see how you will be able to turn this bag inside out after sewing if you install an inner gusset. Can you install an inner pocket attached to just the back or front?
-
Can you loosen up the leather by applying some neatsfoot oil, to give the leather a little bit of flexibility? I have no experience with NFO, but I think I read somewhere that it can assist with improving the flexibility of hard leather.

I like the final appearance. The white is only just the tiniest bit reduced in brightness, which, IMHO, adds to the effect.

Hummingbird Notebook
Rockoboy replied to Bob Blea's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I like the whole piece just as it is. The flowers on the back don't get lost in the geometric pattern, not for me anyway.- 13 replies

The Eagle HAS landed! (Finally!)
Rockoboy replied to YinTx's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
So what if it was a Craftaid ... you did a magnificent job on the tooling. I hope I can do something even half as good as you have done here.- 17 replies

Sliced or julienne potatoes are called 'chips' in Australia. This includes the hot "fries" version and also the eaten-cold-packet version of "crisps". Then again, because we have so much influence from UK and US television and ex-pats, any of these are fine to use in 'almost' any establishment Downunder.

My first attempt at tooling leather
Rockoboy replied to CLebel's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
Thanx Paul. That is a great tip that I will definitely remember. I have just been taking a lot of care to make sure the lines don't overlap, but now I am on my way in the right direction! -
I have bought a few pieces of vegtan of different thicknesses from them. I have tooled it, so from my basic knowledge ... its tooling leather, whether it is or not!

Rockoboy replied to CaptnCaptain's topic in Old/Sold
My bad. A company that is only 4000kms away has offered some great bargains. I can see some croc back straps in my immediate future. Thank you Birdsalls Leather!- 18 replies

Hi Curt, DO you have any pics of your work? People hereabouts are very visual oriented, and they are more likely to come out to play if they see some pics.

Looks pretty good to me. Where some people (ok ... me!) mess up a little is, not properly joining up the pointed end of the petal/leaf etc. Sometimes over or undershooting one side or the other. You got those points done really well. -
Here is my new sewing machine (1 month old) with the removable flat bed I made. The bolts for the feet allow me to adjust the height very accurately, and the rubber feet help keep it from sliding around as it is a loose fit to the machine.
