  1. Hello! I am making some leather bracelets with turquoise stones set in them. What is a good method for setting stones in leather so that they will stay and not pop out over time? This first one is my experiment. I set it with barges cement but I'm afraid it will pop out over time. The stones are backed with some kind of epoxy. Any help is appreciated. (Pics coming soon) -Ryan
  2. Well done! That's one special dog for sure. Is it lined?
  3. Beautiful! Love the orange flower center!
  4. The saddle maker I am an apprentice for has a cobra machine. I've used it a bit and I like my cowboy better because of the tighter stitches and its ability to stitch thin leather. Thank you! I have already bumped into several folks who wanted to see my work and I could show them my wallet. Hi! They're all craftool or craftool pros. Not the best quality for sure but the crispness comes from when I stamp the leather after I get it wet. If you stamp right after you wet the leather it will look mushy and soft but if you wait until the leather returns to its natural color (or looks dry) the stamping will come out clean and crisp. Hope this helps. Thanks! That's how I sign my name so I just lightly signed the leather with a pencil and cut/beveled around the mark. -Ryan
  5. Hey! I made Santa a belt last year! How many does the guy need??
  6. Thank you! Thanks, Jeff! It's a screw-back concho with two screws. 4500... Yep, all stitched by that machine. I'm surprised at how well it stitches thin leather. That inside flap is 3/4oz. -Ryan
  7. Nice work! How much time do you have in it? -Ryan
  8. Very realistic! Great Job!
  9. Lol! I was wondering who would mention it first. Should have know it would be you! Thanks! Thank you, Ron! I did the seeder with camo on a wallet for a friend and I really liked how it turned out so I did it to mine as well.
  10. Clean and simple it is. Was that a big stamp under a press or what? Looks very professional.
  11. Ok... Yesterday I rode to a McDonald's with my chaps and all and some tourists who had never seen a "real cowboy" had to get pictures with me and my horse... awkward.
  12. No, not my range unfortunately. I was just helping at that ranch. That was the clear spot. There were places where it was so thick we had to get off our horses and work our way through it. It seems I only have two options... make a suit of armor or toughen up. -Ryan
  13. Thanks! I got mine from Tandy. Not sure about veg tan bison. -Ryan
  14. Thanks YinTx! I forgot to mention that I was inspired by your cell phone slip case. I really like the BW and sheridan mix. -Ryan
  15. Hello all! Here is a roper wallet (or long wallet) that I just finished for myself. Btw, my nickname is Nate in case you're confused. I needed to make myself a wallet so I could have some of my work with me when meeting potential customers. Also, my Cabela's wallet was falling apart. It is lined with Tandy's super soft pigskin. When I showed it to my dad, he said I should have stamped "A fool and his money are soon parted" on the inside flap... (I think I should have done that too considering how often I go to Tandy... ) Let me know what you think! Comments/critique always welcome. Thanks for looking! -Ryan
  16. Thanks Jeff! Thank you! The rings are for tying things to such as pigging strings. That way you can rope cattle without carrying your piggin string in your mouth. I have rings on my chaps and they come in real handy. Thanks. I've been doing leather work for about 2 years. Thanks! Thanks Monkey! Yeah, not the best stuff for wallets for sure! They're quite durable but at the same time comfortable because they are soft and have some stretch to it.
  17. Lol that's me in those chaps. I'm a 30" waist and my friend is a 34" waist (they fit him perfectly). They are on the tightest holes on both sides and still barely fit around my waist. haha! Like I said in a previous response, the belt has already blended.
  18. Lol. If I'm not doing school or riding a horse, I'm doing leather work. It's work I enjoy so I make as much time for it as I can.
  19. Thanks Gary! It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to tool one yoke. Funny you noticed the belt. I hadn't oiled the belt and set it out in the sun like I did the yokes. So you can see the difference the sun does after you oil it. Anyways, it got oiled and sunned and matches the color very closely now. Thanks. I was wondering who would notice the initials first.
  20. Here's something fresh off the bench. These are bison leather shotgun chaps for a cowboy friend of mine. We were rounding up cattle in heavy thickets and he needed chaps badly. Our shirts keep getting torn but I don't think I can fix that. This leather is great working chap leather because it is very tough but supple enough to be comfortable but it is a little scarred. He was very pleased with them. Let me know what you think. Comments/critique welcome.
