  1. Just finished this fun little endeavor Sam
  2. Looks like a quality Machine Mark! Thanks. I spent a lot of time on their site:) Sam:)
  3. Nice find if you are happy:) I shy away from used stuff of any kind as I have the tendency to buy other peoples junk, like the time I bought a 'broken' trumpet at a garage sale for $8---I know, DUMB:) I will be buying a new heavy duty leather sewing machine in the near future so I won't have to hand sew everything I create:) I have lots of people that want to buy my stuff but my fear is that as soon as I advertise, I may get an order large enough that it isn't practical to hand sew anymore! The trouble is that there are so many different ones on the market that 'sensory overload' kicks in and makes a decision difficult, because EVERYONE makes the best machine:) I am within 60 miles of 2 retailers that sell them and they both are really good at helping customers make good decisions so it won't be long:) Take care and let us see some of your machine sown projects:) Sam
  4. Shelia, nice work! I just finished the same 'kit' from Tandy and I must say, even a 'Rocket Scientist' would have a hard time due to poor writing and poor picture quality! Not to mention having to hold like 4 to 5 pieces of leather all together at the bottom of the bag and attempt to hand sew them nicely together! I can make that bag from scratch and have it put together much faster and cheaper than their kit. I gave the finished product to my Son and he and everyone else loves it. The 'Smell' of the leather though is almost sickening! Weird:( Sam:)
  5. Thanks! If you work for Springfield leather, you Folks are the best:) I have a Military account with your store and first bought product from you about 3 weeks ago and from the time we walked in the front door until the time we left, it was a fantastic and professional experience! The store was much bigger than I thought it was going to be from perusing your web-site and very well stocked. The little purse above was made from your products:) Your staff took the time to show me how a HD leather sewing machine loads and sews and I will be buying a machine from you soon:) Sam Porter Carthage, Missouri 64836
  6. Very beautiful work! Do you machine sew or hand sew? It's amazing how a 'little wallet' project can take so long and be so difficult to do:) Sam:)
  7. I made this for my wife to carry her Sunday School stuff for her class. It has a total of 3 open pouches to carry the supplies she uses like pens, pencils and coloring art pencils for her kids.:) Sam:)
  8. A fun little 'collage' type creation:) Sam:)
  9. A simple little purse that She told me she needed to carry her Baa-Baa's:) She is 3 months old:)
  10. A simple belt for a concealed carry project I am working on. Sam:)
  11. I live about 60 miles west of them and I visited them for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it was an amazing experience! Not only was the staff knowledgeable but very willing to go out of their way to help me, a new person to leathercraft. I told them that I was interested in a new Heavy duty leather sewing machine but had no idea what to look for! They probably spent an hour with me showing me all of the features and accessories and what level of machine I may need. I was very impressed and spent a couple of hundred dollars stocking up on some supplies I needed. I had mentioned that I was a retired Air Force NCO and was surprised that they automatically gave me their BEST discount on all purchases, then and in the future:) Tandy is just a few miles away and they are great people too and I also get their Military discount. GOD bless our Men and Women in uniform and thank you for your service! Sam:)
  12. " Ecclesiastes 1:9 King James Version (KJV) 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. We are all using each others intellectual and artistic ideas to form our own:)
  13. I didn't even notice until after I made the piece but you're right , it does look like a coffin. Sam:)
  14. Thanks Folks! The shape came about by having a piece of scrap that needed work. I plan to make this into a hanging wind chime so the shape is probably better than just a rectangle. I will show the final piece when I finish! Amen my Friend:)

    A Collage

Thought I would share this piece with you Folks. The dimensions are approx 12 inches tall by 8 inches wide. 10 OZ hide on front and a super thin, tan pig skin backing. The Cross is tooled and raised and painted British Antique brown and the rest is Blue dye and all coats are buffed. A protective coating will be applied and buffed to a high sheen. The "Jesus" wood carving is white oak, spray painted and glued on the cross. The piece will end up as a hanging 'wind chime' when completed. The main idea was contrasting colors and the use of wood in the Collage. Sam:)
  16. That's usually why we have to give it away to loved ones or friend's or keep it ourselves as no one would pay for the labor time we have in the project:) Nice work! Sam
  17. Just big enough for a quick shopping spree:) The hardware is a little to big but it's all I had on hand. Yellow and wheat dye and black edge coat and then a little Mink oil, all buffed out:) Sam:)
  18. Say what???? Boring to the max! Sorry but just pushing some buttons doesn't teach anything unless there's some Audio and explanations. Thanks though for your effort. Sam:)
  19. I thought it was a 'Meatball' carrier. Very nice ideas Folks---now I'm searching the kitchen! Sam
  20. Fantastic and congratulations on a fine piece of art Unless someone has made a briefcase from conception to finished product, they have no idea of the amount of work involved! Sam
  21. You know what they say: "The squeaky wheel gets the oil!" Very nice Idea. Sam
  22. If you will buff the first coat of that dark brown dye with a buffing wheel (I use a Dremel) and do the same on subsequent coats, especially the last one then it doesn't have that dark 'dull' look. Then some Resolene and maybe a little mink oil rubbed in to a very high gloss.:) Nice job as usual. Sam
  23. "And it soaks up really a lot of (not so cheap) dye." There ya go, it is a pain because it seems to take forever to spread dye in the porous side and it does take a lot of dye. The only way I would leave the natural color showing is if I was using yellow or straw dye for the outside, then there isn't such a sharp color contrast. Sam:)
