  1. Put the anvil in the freezer for about an hour or a little longer to shrink it and then press it in.
  2. I misplaced my book for the part numbers. Will be continued. Sorry for the wait.
  3. I have a couple of splitters, one American that I rebuilt and not sure about the other one although it is not a hand crank job, but a pull through. I find the American to work well, but is too narrow most of the time for the work I am doing. I need a band splitter. Go with a bigger one I say.
  4. Ok. I will right them up and post them later today when I have more time to do so. It takes a little fabrication and welding. You can get buy without doing so, but it will cost a little more. Fun little project! lol
  5. I use 277 upper and 207 lower threads and set the upper tension pretty darn tight. I also use a round point needle size 25. My machine is also set at 5 stitches per inch. Good luck! I edited this because I put down a leather needle for some reason and use a round needle.
  6. What size spots are you wanting to set? I have a recipe to build a nice foot press for under 200 bucks.
  7. Hello, Where can I get chestnut leather dye? Or what can I mix to achieve that the color? Cannot find any info anywhere. Thanks!
  8. Lowes has it and most hardware stores carry it. It is it the tool section. Ryobi brand is a dollar for 4 ozs.
  9. That book will show you what do without reverse. Really the only time I need reverse is when I make nylon halters. Keep in mind that you do not reverse with a leather needle as it will cut the thread. I think you will enjoy the book. The book and my dads old army 111w101 is how I got started in all of this leather work! lol
  10. Thanks for sharing the videos! I really enjoined them!
  11. My advice to you is to buy this book. It will show you everything you need to know about sewing with an industrial sewing machine plus many, many, more things. It is a super, super book. You can find this book a little cheaper though. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BOOK-Automotive-Up...1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. A speed reducer is a 2 pulley idler system that is installed between the motor and sewing machine. Most are designed to slow the machine to half the motor speed which also doubles the torque of the machine. Here is a link on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Industrial-Sewing-Mach...Q2em118Q2el1247 A servo motor is a reostatically controlled motor that runs like a house sewing machine meaning the farther you press the go pedal down, the faster the machine will run. Both the speed reducer and servo motor systems are around 100 to 150 bucks. Pretty costly if you ask me. I would stick a block of wood or a brick under the foot peddle to limit the amount of travel the peddle has to slow the machine down. That does not cost anything. lol You will get use to it I'm sure.
  13. It sure will work. Great walking foot, cylinder arm sewing machine. It has the same feet as the Singer 111w models and takes the same common needle system. 135x17, round point, 135x16 wedge point leather. Parts are still available for this machine also. Good luck and have fun!
  14. I use Weavers Tuff Kote for my finished products. They have black and clear. I even put the leather in the tub to soak it for wet forming after the finish is applied and it does not hurt it or water spot it. I have a set of leather motorcycle bags that were finished with Fiebings black leather balm with atom wax and they have held up to 15 years of weather and riding. They say it is not water resistant, but I believe it is.
  15. Isn't there an Osborn Lake over there in Scotland? Thanks!
  16. There is a vendor that I talk to every year at the North Texas Irish Festival and his booth is Rev's Armour Werx and his sewing machine is a hand crank that looks kinda like an old Singer but he got his new just a few years ago. I do know that they go for about $750 but after watching how his works I think it's well worth the money. I bet if you shoot off an email to him off his site he'll give you the info you need on how to order one, and maybe send you some pictures of it. Damon They sell for around $350.00
  17. Looks like it turned out better than my first one. Mine stretched like crazy and I had to scrap it! lol
  18. Hello from from Ohio, USA and welcome. Glad to have you here!
  19. Great job! They really look very nice!
  20. Why 4 weeks? Thats quite a bit of time too wait I would think. I would probably change my mind by then. lol
  21. Flip the lever that slides in the handle upsidedown and it turns it into a two handed machine.
  22. Thanks for the great link! It was great!
  23. Weaver Leather and Beiler's Supply (ph. 717.768.0174) sells conchos and stainless hardware. I would go with all stainless steel along with welded d rings. Stainless rivets do not splash as well as nickle plated brass. I use all S.S. hardware along with nickel plated brass rivets and nickel plated brass conchos.
  24. Thanks for the post!
  25. Wow! Speechless!
