My new belt
Jack1970 replied to Jack1970's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thanks! I appreciate it! I used back 4 to condition it after carving. Then I used Tan Kote, Fiebing's Sheridan Antique, then more Tan Kote. After all that dried, I used a little Atom Wax. I just used saddle soap and water for slicking the edges, along with some chocolate brown pro dye. Jack -
Those are crazy good! I like them!

My new belt

Thanks! I appreciate it! Battlemunky, it's about 15-16 oz. It's pretty thick but it's pretty comfortable anyway. I don't even notice it. Looking forward to seeing your belt! -

My new belt

Thanks, ya'll! I appreciate it. Jeff, the buckle is one of the Laramie buckles from Tandy. I guess it's a center bar buckle? Here's a better shot of the buckle. -
I finally got around to making myself a belt. I think belts are about my favorite thing to make. This is the 4th belt I've made. It makes me happy to wear it because i know I made it myself.

Those look great, Roland! Great work!

Thanks a million to both of you! I ran them across my strop a few times and that totally solved the issue for me! I would have never thought of that. I still like my craftool pro bevelers and will probably still use them on some things but these Barry King bevelers really make my carving pop out of the leather like crazy! Thanks again!! Jack

Ok folks, I just got some new Barry King bevelers and I seem to be having trouble running them. They're just the standard course bevelers but they are steeper than what I was using before. They also seem to be a little courser. All of this is fine but when I'm trying to run them, it seems like they stick to the leather. It's like I can't just move them across a line like my craftool pro bevelers. Is there some kind of a trick that I'm not aware of here? It almost feels like the first time I've ever beveled anything. I know that I'll like them once I can get the hang of running them smoothly. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Jack

MY Belt
Jack1970 replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That's nice, Ryan, I like that! It's certainly a lot of leather but I think it's cool like that. Nice stitching, too. My grandpa always wore a belt with stitching like that so it always catches my eye.- 14 replies

Thanks for the tips! I've been all over looking for a shorter set screw and haven't had any luck. I can't even tell what size it is or I'd try to order a shorter one online. That being the case, I kind of hate to start filing on it just in case I goober it up. Seems like filing or grinding the blade is probably my safest route.

Hey folks, I have both of the Craftool Pro swivel knives (1/2" and 3/8" barrel) and I'm having a hard time finding replacement blades for them. Tandy doesn't even have them in their catalogue. I'd prefer the fatter blades, like the cheap Tandy blades, because I like the wider cuts and for some reason I seem to do better with them. The problem is that the shaft on the Craftool Pro swivel knife blades are flat on the side where the set screw goes so when I try to put a standard blade in there, the set screw sticks out on the barrel. It will go in there and tighten down, it just creates a little annoying knob on there sticking up like that. I'm kind of looking for something that's not too custom or expensive. Thanks for your input! Regards, Jack

Hi folks! I took advantage of a sale that Tandy was having on Craftool Pro stamps this weekend and picked up a lattice basket weave stamp that I think is cool (X2850) and I don't really know how to run it and haven't found any videos or instructions that show how to lay it out. Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated! Btw, in case you didn't know, the Craftool Pro stamps are on sale for $7.99 this weekend at Tandy.
