  2. I just went to Tandy and saw they had sides of burgundy latigo on sale for $28.00 a roll. Stipulations were that you could not unroll it..... ok... I grabbed a roll and went to the check out... I got home, and it is covered in a white gray stuff that looks like mildew.... Is this mildew? I have a few smaller pieces of burgundy latigo and it has gotten the same stuff, I just washed it to clean it off before I used it... but this is allot, and all the talk about mold and sickness.... it is kind of scary... Any info would be appreciated. Mike
  3. I did smoke on one project using swivel cuts for the smoke... you could use a double sided beveler.... like CrafTools B997.....

  13. I cant speak on my leather work.... I have never had allot of business to depend upon... but I can speak from my uncle who runs a tire store. The past few months have not been nice to him, and he is constantly trying to figure in additional means of making money. The fuel is not helping anything, it is hurting, but we are experiencing a nationwide recession. Next time you take your wife out to eat, take a look around. Are there as many people in the restaurant as there normally would be? I took my wife to a nice restaurant this past friday on her birthday. This restaurant always has stand by waiting especially on a friday. When we got there at 6pm, we were seated immediately. I didnt think about it at the time, but after talking to my uncle this weekend, he mentioned going to Red Lobster on that same friday. The manager let half the staff go home around 7pm when he was there eating. Everything is being effected in one way or the other...
  14. I do not "deglaze" any of my leather.... I wet to case (actually, I have been using tandys spray casing stuff) then I apply the antique and wipe it off, I use a wet sponge when the antique drys too fast, and allow it to dry, then apply the supersheen with a dobberin circular strokes as fast as I can without leaving bubbles. then i let it dry. I might give it a second coat later....
  15. As some of you know, I have been working on re covering my motorcycle seat. I got the sissybar pad covered and started on the passenger seat and got to a point where I know if I continued with it I would not like it. So I recently ripped it apart and started over keeping in mind the mistakes I made on it and while I had the leather laid out, i did pretty much the same thing for the coloring and finishing as I did on the first fo round: Fiebings antique and super sheen over it. The first go round turned out nice. I can scratch the leather and you can tell the super sheen is not sitting on top, but has sort of penetrated the leather. On the new one I was punching holes for the seams and noticed the super sheen looked like it wrinkled up. I scratched my finger nail over it and it came up, away from the leather and I was able to peal the entire layer of super sheen up away from the entire piece of leather. I have never had this happen before. I used the same antique and super sheen on both seats, and I applied them the same both times too. I cannot figure why it did this. Any ideas?

  19. Johanna, when you get it set up, I have both of Beaverslayers tutorials as DOCs and can convert them to PDF in need be... once you get the area set up, if it would make it easier for you, I can give them to you to upload to it as a single Document, instead of a compilation of several posts.
  20. I think the fast reply disapears when someone else posts before you submit your FR..... just guessing.... But I wondered about it too... and i had the setting in my control panel to always have it open... so all I had to do was type in the already open box, and hit enter... now I have to hit other stuff.... too exhausting....
  21. No pix.... this is a PIF item.... they arent shoes.... but that was as close a description I could make staying close to what they are without giving away what they are.... once they are sent to CitzenKate pix will be posted.... NeetLac it is.... TG I still have a big can of it....
  22. Ok, lets say I made a pair of shoes out of veg tan (including the outer sole), and used Fiebings antique on it. What would you suggest I use as a final finish before the shoes are worn?
  23. As it stands, I am taking way way too long with my current PIF, so I need to be removed from this PIF until I get caught up. Then I will get on the next one once I am caught up. Thanks
