  1. It sure is. i would love to find something on the actual construction techniques certainly some archeogeek had to have done that. I'm still looking lol.
  2. you can do some cool stuff with one. It works better than great. especially with some of the lower quality water based dyes. the secret i was given, keep your air pressure low to avoid misting. But other methods create other effects too so its not the only method. I like a mottled appearance on some thing so i use a natural sponge sometimes to apply dyes. with the airbrush i really like the effect of spraying a black then lightly mist in some iridescent colors over it.
  3. you did an awesome job creating that pattern, the tooling is great also.
  4. if you look close at your instructions you will see they use both, usually on Stohlman patterns one on one side of the leaf vein and one on the other side and in different sizes. Rules apply to those who are trying to exactly copy one of the different tooling styles. so if your using one of Stohlmans books or patterns for example then yes that's what made his style unique. Sheridan style may have different rules or techniques i haven't studied it much. but I live off the old adage, its your house you can paint it whatever color you want. i was just looking at a knife sheath here that used a triangle shaped stamp around the border of a basket weave where a camo tool is usually called for in books and it looked great sooo........
  5. i would try fredks suggestion on at least one then do some testing before tossing a lot of work. i think it would work fine if your only thinking a thunder shower here or there. My dogs love to play in the sprinklers so when i say wet i mean soaked through wet.
  6. lol i have one of those 4mm pro lines i bought to replace one of my cheapos. turned out as you say the measurements between prongs were different the spi didn't match so i threw it in the box and forgot it until now guess i better rethink it. The cheapos are 4mm point to point the pro lines are 4mm between tines.
  7. the dye can bleed off when the collar gets wet. Don't ask me how i know lol , but it took a long time to come off my dogs coat. I would not dye the back /inside at all.
  8. lol I'm so fat i look like one of those circus bears riding my bike, the bib overalls don't help either.
  9. I agree its still buyer beware for much of their stuff. But i hope they can.
  10. I like them but the stitching is a bit close for my holsters problem is 7spi is the widest stitch they come in. I know a lot of folk don't like Tandy stuff but these are nice a bit pricey though IMO.
  11. they aren't soft lol 10 oz leather mildly formed is all, these aren't gun fighting holsters they are for using out in the wilds of Wyoming. Folks like them because they are fat folk friendly and ride well in atvs, trucks and such. Dyed canyon tan with a nice coat of Feibings golden mink oil.
  12. sure! they are the fine diamond chisels from Tandy and i bought them because they were 50 % off so i picked up a couple in 3,5mm. they are much better than the off brand ones i was given. I had a set of cheapos from a leather set off amazon that i was given, they were almost square and the tines would bend, i had to straighten them after about four holes lol. So when these came on sale i thought i better get them. it comes from my folks not allowing me to cuss "damn" would have gotten me slapped upside my head or a mouthful of soap. lol It was quite a common word for kids in my day.
  13. Thanks a bunch your comments will save a lot of folk as well as me some thinking that's for sure. I mainly work with holster and sheaths, thick stuff but a guy never knows who may ask for what lol.
  14. dang what an easy answer lol. I can do that. I thank you!
  15. Please don't think i was trying to be a smart a## with my comment you brought up really good points but said nothing about how to accomplish them. when do you use a cast? how do you determine spacing? how do you determine size of thread? Me i read and watched then practiced and practiced more its quite easy to stick two needles through a hole but as you said doing it so that it looks good from every aspect, hole size, thread size, corners etc. is the intended outcome i think for anyone. I just bought new and good diamond chisels which brought up a question when you get to a corner how do you change the direction of the holes so the stitch sits correctly in it? the slits go from one direction to another is that a problem or an overthink?
  16. ok so now please explain how do you do all that? i think that's what he wanted to know. i wouldn't mind either lol.

  18. Alot of info free online at Tandys website https://tandyleather.com/blogs/leathercraft-library/pictorial-instruction-cards-for-leather-carving
  19. beautiful work, you sure got that outside border camo stamp even all the way around did you measure? Looks like a trapdoor by the butt plate.
  20. excellent work!!! i would leave the deer and acorns natural and darken the background, maybe dye the leaves lightly green. Then antique to bring out the basket weave.
  21. cmon you know you gotta make it sound much more complicated or scientific lol maybe some math involved also.
