  1. ahh that's cool I actually went to graphic design school back in the early 2000s and dropped out shortly after lol (to much history and English and not enough graphic design) I was actually just going to get the monthly adobe subscription so I could do some design work in illustrator. 20x30 is a pretty decent work envelope.. I was actually looking into the laser cutters a while back but I never pulled the trigger. they seem pretty handy for all sorts of things not just cutting leather but I think right now a bell skiver would be the most beneficial for my needs. appreciate the convo and help !
  2. looks super nice !! I like the color choice. did you have to use any stiffener material or is that 9oz firm enough to keep everything straight?
  3. @LatigoAmigo Man that is impressive ! great choice of materials and the workmanship is top notch. im assuming the pattern is yours? I like that there's lots of little details for your eyes to catch I keep seeing something new every time I look at the pic's, how do you like the laser cutter? are you using A glowforge or something more industrial ?
  4. @LatigoAmigo wow that bag looks awesome, very impressive! do you have any more pictures ? the leather looks great (what kind is it?) and your liner looks really nice. is your bag hand or machine stitched? I think ive seen that stuff on the maverick site come to think of it... ill have to check it out again.
  5. Yes the bag is actually lined.... meaning I lined the leather pieces before sewing together. I was thinking if there was a better way to hide the seams .... I didn’t even think of doing a drop in liner but thinking about it now it makes more sense for a turned bag so you won’t see the turned edges on the inside. What material do you use for liners if I may ask ? And how do you do it lol like do you just make a smaller bag of whatever liner material and sew it in. I should probably read a bag making book lol anyways appreciate the feedback it got my gears turning !!
  6. That looks great Frodo! I like the tooling pattern..Keep it up
  7. So this is my first attempt at making a bag of any sort. I’m actually really pleased with how it turned out. I’m calling this a prototype because I plan on making more with nicer leathers. While this looks pretty decent there’s quite a few scars on the leather and while it worked for this bag that’s not really the look I’m going for. Also I need to tweak the pattern a bit. And I need to make a strap just waiting on some leather to come in. The bag is made of 2.5/3.0oz European veg tan from Tandy. Stitched with twist 0.45 cream linen thread and I used some cheap 5mm pricking irons from Amazon. The liner is some sort of suede from an old jacket liner I believe (my aunt gave it to me when I told her I was making leather goods) I got the gold hardware from sav-more leather in Downtown LA. I’d really like to hear what you think or maybe offer some insight. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to glue the seams before sewing ( I didn’t ) also I forgot to undo the zipper A little bit before closed it up so that was a total pain trying to get the zipper open so I could flip it. Here’s a lot of pics =) Thanks for looking !
  8. Appreciate it.. im kinda overly detail oriented so it takes me a while to make things but I’m getting better.. especially with this safer at home deal going on...I have lots of time to spend at the workbench Thank you Thanks me to..Luckily I had the thread and edge paint to match.
  9. thanks fellas, the edges are probably my best yet, sanded and burnished 2 times and 3 layers of paint sanded smooth between each layer. As for the stitching I always seem to have trouble with the corners where the stitch turns. I've already adjusted the pattern 3 times so hopefully were getting close to the final version.
  10. So the title may be a little misleading.. This is actually my 5th wallet but this is the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the site. I got into the craft about 1 year ago and found this site shortly after and have been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I absolutely love working with leather and I try to make things as often as possible. Which isn’t as often as I’d like seeing as how I’ve made roughly 5 wallets and 3 card Holders and a couple key chains since I started As for my wallet it is made out of 2oz lollipop red horween chromexcel that I scored when Rocky Mountain had there sale a while back. It’s stitched with carriage natural hemp thread from Tandy and edge painted with vernis burgundy color.. I used French style pricking irons from wuta 3.38mm or 8 spi. I’m really looking for some critiques to see where I can improve. I mean I can see the flaws but I’m curious how it looks to other makers ( my wife just says “ohh that’s pretty or nice” ) Sooo not much help in that department. Anyways I’m really excited to hear what you all have to say. Thanks for looking! Castle -
  11. maybe you could opt for the Chicago screw type as opposed to having to set them with a punch.. just a thought
  12. you could also try https://maverickleathercompany.com/ they have a broad selection of leather to choose from and a whole section of 2-4oz leathers
  13. @motocouture your bag is beautiful !! I just got a side of leather and decided I want to make myself a duffle.. I was wondering if you could give more details on the piping and inside edges? did you line it ? if possible maybe you could post some pics of the inside for me.. thanks !
  14. thats a great looking bag ! besides the few visible scuffs on the leather I cant find anything bad to say about it.. what kind of leather and material did you use for the liner ?
  15. your wallets look great ! I would have to agree with @Tugadude as I prefer a small gap between the leather edge and stitch as well...what kind of leather did you use ? its very nice looking.
  16. could you possibly post the actual pictures in the forum ?
  17. Any chance it came with a service manual ? or do you have the model number by chance ?? Im a machinist and and I live in Hawaiian Gardens which is right next to los Alamitos.. i don't have experience with these machines but im sure i could help or be of service. I plan on buying a skiver in the future so for me it would be a good learning experience.. Let me know ! Eric -
  18. that is some great looking work ! good job !!
  19. maybe you should try etsy or some other type of marketplace for these types of goods. I cant speak as to why no one is buying your products but I myself have no need for anymore awls and if I can speak honestly I'm not a fan of the hand ground looking scratch awls as to me being in the precision metal manufacturing world I don't find them to be pleasing to my eye. although they are artsy looking. anyways I'm not trying to be harsh. I'm sure your products are quality. take care -
  20. That's a great looking bag !! on my list of things to make after I get more comfortable as I've only made wallets/card holders as of now. What's the inside look like ? did you add a liner or any pockets ?
