  1. Looked like a fun project. I have two cobblers hammers I found from an estate sale. These have larger diameter surfaces though. But not as pretty as yours.
  2. Looks very nice.. I like the two tone and stitching. The button clasp, too. I made like the one above with the "Chuck Dorsett" look, but with the belt loops it looks way too chonky so I don't wear it. It' mainly a 'show and tell' piece on my work bench for when friends visit me.

    Getting Smaller

What a cool idea. The creativity never ceases to amaze me on this forum.
  5. @JLSleather thank you for your sage advice.
  6. I like this idea, just don't really know anyone who is into leather crafting in my area. I think there is a guy down in Texas City that makes holsters, though. Thanks for the idea. But may i ask, when ordering in bulk hides, do they all have to be the same weights? I really don't know but another good idea. I'll have to check the yellow pages, er, internet.
  7. Thanks @Northmount I got a reply from Techsew .
  8. I wished I knew a few guys in my area that would be willing to go in on something like that....
  9. Wow great color combos right down to the thread. The craftsmanship is strong with this one!!!
  10. Thanks for sharing that picture. I only have Tandy stores near me and the wrinkle look is all they seem to have so I thought that was normal.
  11. Looks great for your first wallet, though
  12. Not to mention the inevitable price increases.....
  13. Maybe it's just me, but I do have an expectation that when I buy ANYTHING new it should work out of the box. Sure, a little adjustment here or there for reasons of customization (which is alot of the side conversations here are about) and also when I call the vendor after buying something new I would also expect someone to pick up with hopefully a smiling face/voice.
  14. I'm still waiting from a response from Techsew customer service that I sent on the 16th. It's just for a part and I guess it doesn't rank as importance as would a new machine inquiry but boy I can only imagine much trouble I would be if I didn't answer an email in almost a week. I am going to give it a few more days before I send a reminder but gosh, I didn't think I had to.
  15. I was kind of curious, too. I've never used NFO, just plain olive oil (I don't think they're the exact same thing but.... ) and was never really sure of where in the steps to do this. I generally apply my oil after I do any tooling but before dying. It seems to work for me. I tried once oiling after dying/painting but I think I was too impatient and didn't wait long enough for everything to cure and smeared some when I applied the oil. I'll have to try again and be more patient. That's one of the things this craft teaches you, is patience... now if I would only listen! That said, I think it's interesting where we have two solid contributing forum members sharing their experiences and best practices and they have their own steps in how they produce their superior products; each is a little different but both have great results. Bottom line, with a little experimentation you will also create your own steps and best practices that work best for you.

    Houston Rodeo

Hey, thank you. I appreciate the compliment. I'm working on two holsters and my challenge for me now is to punch straight holes for stitching. But I do loves me some leather challenges!!

As a follow up he was so delighted he wants me to make a holster! I guess this is how it all starts! .... so much fun!

    Houston Rodeo

I am not a rodeo person but a friend told me about how folks going like to wear some sort of decorative badge hanging around their neck as a pass. Some guys who volunteer get special pins they also like to add like conchos. I made these for him as a gift. The first was smaller with blue back ground (used blue dye but got washed out to a green after I added the antique) but it was more of a mock up. When I first made these they were just going to be just that, a hanging badge. Since then I had the idea of adding a card holders to the back so he wouldn't have to carry around his wallet. The second one I made before i had the card pocket idea so it was already cut. Should've left it alone as there wasn't enough room for the seam allowance. The larger one probably has too much seam allowance but he loves them both. First mock up with blue back ground until it was antiqued This is the second version that was made before I thought of the pockets in the back which didn't allow for seam allowances View with pockets This is the next one I made that is larger This is the final one I made. It's way larger on the side and with four pockets in the back. I'm quite proud of the stitching, too. These are the size comparisons between the two final ones I made. Forgot to say I added edge treatments which made it look nicer but adding edge kote to the chrome tan and veg tan edge is a challenge. I learned quite a lot and most of all, it was a bunch of fun. Thanks for looking.
  19. As my own avatar implies, I am a dog lover and I share the sentiments. I'd like to think when I cross to the other side I will get to romp and play with all of our previous friends, both 2 legged and best of all, our loyal and faithful four legged ones. RIP Zulu!
  20. Dude, that is super cool art work. Please be sure to follow up with the final product.
  21. I'm not for certain but I think you need to gouge out a line from the under side? This might help explain better:

    Angled blade

I learned to cut at an angle by tipping it back as mentioned with my Tandy beginners swivel knife (I still have and use it!) But at an estate sale I found a ceramic angle blade (along with a bunch of other great finds) and this little guy made a big difference after I polished it up and has been my goto since. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I learned all my basics, first.
