  1. I've spent 45 years dealing with 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 etc. The dirt guys do things in tenths of a foot or inch. I don't play their game either.
  2. Youtube pretty much said it all. Not anything I participate in. But then, I don't watch much of any kind of videos. I would much rather read a news article than watch the video that goes with it.
  3. I'm not sure I understand the issue. I would use a round hole at the tip and just continue sewing around and down the other side.
  4. I personally have never watched any of your videos, but have no issue with them. I don't look at many of the posted videos beyond some of the music links in another thread. But I must say, I have never heard of an "unboxing video".
  5. To be honest, I highly doubt that NFO can penetrate 3-4 coats of resolene. I would 'work it' around a smooth pole or pipe. I have done that with older leather that has stiffened. I use the corner post of the chainlink fence, about 3 1/2".
  6. Your link goes to one for $100.
  7. Having already retired after 30+ years building houses, and 13 of road construction (talk about a young man's game), I am totally happy doing one project at a time. Even when I make the shooting bags to take to the rendezvous, none of them are the same. I've had a lifetime of production work, and I never want that to enter into what I do now.
  8. Nicely done. Clean lines and very secure.
  9. I put up with the "far superior digital and metric system" while I was stationed in Germany years ago. When I rotated back to the States I dumped it as a bad memory. I haven't done anything in metric since, and never will.
  10. You have a "a nice looking pair of boots"? Mine are covered with 'shud', asphalt and sometimes concrete. I don't think I have owned a "a nice looking pair of boots" in my life. Waterproofing and conditioning are the only things I consider.. And yes, I wear the same boots to a wedding or out to dinner as I do to work. For what you want Kiwi or Lincoln probably has what you want
  11. 35+ years and I still do it all by hand. Anything else takes the CRAFT out of it. I have a sewing machine, and it is a great place to pile things.
  12. EXACTLY!! I have no idea what the weight of leather is for any given project, nor do I care. It's completely immaterial. I choose the leather to suit the project. It's easy to tell if this one or that one will be too thick (that can be split down) or too thin (glue in a layer of thin goat or sheep) or just right. For the record, 1oz = 1/64 of an inch. 8oz leather is 1/8". So 1oz+/- doesn't really make any difference.
  13. I don't 'clicker, and I only handsew, on purpose! I have absolutely no desire to be a 'factory'. The very thought is disgusting.
  14. Assuming I can do a wallet a day, how the hell am I going to sell 400?
  15. All three are Bovinae. There will be differences in appearance, but the characteristics of the leather will be mostly the same. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Li'l Dude

I had one of these stitching clamps, but lost it (and everything else) to a wild fire, about 10 years ago. Since then I have searched everywhere for another one, to no avail. Does anyone know where one could be had?
  17. Are talking about 'buffalo' or 'bison'? Most 'buffalo' is water buffalo. As to whether either one better than cow, other than appearance(grain), there isn't much difference. Horse is a good chap leather if you can find it.
  18. No, I would use 2oz vegtan, and I would probably use goat or sheep for the interior. I don't use fabric in any of my work.
  19. I had heard this from their daughter at the Pendleton leather show in November. I've bought many of their vintage tool through the years. My go-to head knife and my stitching horse that are used almost every day, came from them.
  20. Yes, it is lining leather. No, I don't skive it. When I line a project with it, I do not make any allowances for it being there.
  21. Nicely done! But they are on the wrong side.
  22. Pictures bud, we need PICTURES.
  23. Not 100% true. With heat you can 'relax' epoxy and remove/replace the awl blade. But yeah, epoxy will tighten you right up.
  24. For 2oz and less, I don't consider it 'there'. I don't take 'lining" leather into consideration when constructing a project. It's just 'there', but doesn't really add anything to the thickness.
  25. When I mate up two edges to sew together, I take them down by half. If there is a third piece in there, I take them just a bit further and take the 3rd piece down to about 1/3. It really depends on your leather as to what is 'too far'.
