  1. No, I would use 2oz vegtan, and I would probably use goat or sheep for the interior. I don't use fabric in any of my work.
  2. I had heard this from their daughter at the Pendleton leather show in November. I've bought many of their vintage tool through the years. My go-to head knife and my stitching horse that are used almost every day, came from them.
  3. Yes, it is lining leather. No, I don't skive it. When I line a project with it, I do not make any allowances for it being there.
  4. Nicely done! But they are on the wrong side.
  5. Pictures bud, we need PICTURES.
  6. Not 100% true. With heat you can 'relax' epoxy and remove/replace the awl blade. But yeah, epoxy will tighten you right up.
  7. For 2oz and less, I don't consider it 'there'. I don't take 'lining" leather into consideration when constructing a project. It's just 'there', but doesn't really add anything to the thickness.
  8. When I mate up two edges to sew together, I take them down by half. If there is a third piece in there, I take them just a bit further and take the 3rd piece down to about 1/3. It really depends on your leather as to what is 'too far'.
  9. A lot of OLD hardware like that is simply not available anymore. Companies close, get bought out, change with the times, etc. Unless you can find some really old stock, substitution is your best bet.
  10. Yes. I don't use either of them, but that is what they are for. I use these two sizes of linen from Crazy Crow. I Waxed Linen Cord - 3 Ply, 45 Yards | Crazy Crow Trading Post Waxed Linen Cord - 5 Ply, 25 Yards | Crazy Crow Trading Post I also have some unwaxed hemp that I dye if I want colors.
  11. Maybe, but I doubt it. There is a reason the design hasn't changed significantly in decades.
  12. I haven't bought this, but it sounds like a fair deal. I have ordered from ZW in the past and have been happy with everything. It would be worth it if someone wanted to get started in belt making. Or dog collars. It's a 'grab bag', and it's up to you whether you want to take a chance.
  13. Very nice! Is that one of Serge's tools?
  14. I find it easier to make tighter turns with it. It also makes it easier to see the line ahead of the blade.
  15. Well done. I have swapped out the 'simulated' leather for the real thing for several archers.
  16. Something a bit different tonight. Some friends from the Yakama Nation honoring veterans.
  17. And it depends on the surface you tool on. Marble is easier than on a table top. The harder, denser the better.
  18. Very nice indeed! I have one of those on my to-do list.
  19. I will look through my printed material when I get to my bench. I think I have some old stuff on the shelf.
  20. I heard tell them Golden Mink are gettin' kinda scirce.
  21. I would use Neats foot oil, but guess any oil will do. After the dog ate half a jar of mink oil and shat all over the house, I won't have it in the house anymore. And I do mean EVERYWHERE!!!!
  22. NICE!! Colt Woodsman?
  23. A video cut from a CD I just got yesterday.
