  1. I use this on all but my 'outdoor' projects. Not a big fan of the plastic finishes. I give a light coat of NFO, and follow with Bee Natural 12-24 hrs after. Leather Finish - 8oz (beenaturalleathercare.com) They have a number of good products that I use on my work boots, buckskins and such. I have not tried their resist product, but after what I have is gone, that will be next.
  2. Exactly. Although left hip/right hip depends on the user.
  3. Here is one that I used to have, liked it a lot. But I can't seem to find a replacement. The picture should give you some ideas though.
  4. Smells like Spam to me.
  5. JAMAICA MON! Nice job!
  6. I'm not sure there is a standard. I have a #0 that takes off more than either of my #1s. Unless you're dealing with very thin leather, I'm not sure it will make much difference.
  7. I don't use chisels at all, just the awl. And since I'm so right handed that I can't even scratch my nose with my left, I put the project in the horse with the front to my right. Stabbing straight through takes some practice, but I have never seen the need to use chisels and the use the awl, even on double layers of 10oz. Also, I was taught to insert both needles before pulling any thread through, to eliminate piercing the thread. YMMV
  8. Or did you perhaps clip it too short to peen over effectively?
  9. Welcome from the PNW.
  10. Slim to none. And Slim just left town.
  11. If you buy a car/truck, do you expect the manufacturer to teach you how to drive? When you buy a sewing machine is it up to the company to teach you how to use it? That ball is in your court.
  12. Can't go wrong with that!
  13. The best part of Sky King was Penny!
  14. I agree with Dwight on the chaps, those are NOT work chaps. Work chaps would just be tied with a thong in the front. If it hooked over the horn it would break, keeping you from getting hung up, drug and killed.
  15. You don't tell us where you are, which might help. But here are a few of the suppliers I deal with. Maverick Leather Company – Your Leather Supplier Montana Leather Company - The Best Online Leather Store Oregon Leather Co. – Portland and Eugene's premier leathercraft and leather supply store. 16. Well done. In making key chains for Christmas 2020, my darling granddaughter spilled 3/4 of a bottle of red dye across my bench. Several people got red ones after that. We also learned that dark brown will cover the other ones.
  17. There is a REALLY nasty compound found in barnyards called SHUD.
  18. Welcome!
  19. Very nice! Just like on all those westerns I grew up on.
  20. Nice work. And I agree with JayEhl, I don't think you want to border around the scrolls. One other thing I will mention, I would have run the basketweave in opposite directions. It's not a big thing, just my personal take. That is a pretty ambitious project.
  21. I use one of these in my wood shop. I do leather in the back room of the house. The Big Buddy can be hooked up to a tank. Kept it warm enough to just wear a shirt when it was about 5 degrees outside. Search Results for mr heater big buddy at Tractor Supply Co.
  22. Sewing the zipper flat, in the face of the pocket will minimize it, but nothing I can think of will eliminate it.
  23. Saw my first Redwing of the year this morning. They usually get here in the first 2 weeks of Feb. If I haven't seen them by Valentine's Day I expect another round of bad weather.
  24. The eye will break if they aren't pulled straight through. It is the weakest part.
