I lied. These came from leatherstampmaker.com. They helped me with the design, as did some on here, as my files were not the correct thing they needed. The big stamp was about $150, 3 inch. the heater was $40 but they have bigger ones. This was 40 watt. The one inch round was $60. takes a long time to heat up the 3 inch stamp.
-
It is like an electric soldering iron that threads on the stamp instead of the handle. They have an adjustable switch one and a non-adjustable one. $80 maybe? The adjustable feature is nice as different leather/wood stamps different. I play with scrap till I get the burn right. It came from the same place. Try to post a picture later. I rarely use it on leather unless stamping on rough side.

I have a 1 inch round from steelstamps. Cost approx $60. Exactly what I wanted. I did add the $8 handle and the heater to hot stamp with it. Will also burn into wood.

Created a wheelgun holster: Let me know what you think!
327fed replied to YinTx's topic in Show Off!!
I like the strap. And I like the length past the snap for operation by old/cold fingers. And where I go the strap beats out the thumb break. Can’t remember when I needed to quick draw, but have too many times dumped a handgun without a strap bending over. -
Thread Exchange.

Saw this on Marketplace near me for $75. Looks like its past redemption.

Hello, This is a prototype of a cell phone/checkbook bag my wife asked me to make for her elderly friend, for Christmas. It is a prototype and the stitching and cutting is crooked. My wife mentioned this but this is a prototype. And no I won't make it out of orange vinyl, just have very little of the chrome tanned leather I plan to use, and can't waste it on a prototype. The straps are my question. Plan to use 3/4 straps of the same material - how to attach. I am thinking a loop riveted to each side of the purse on the side at top, 3/4 inch with 3/4 inch D rings or jump rings. Then a snap on ends of strap. Anybody got a better idea? Thanks. David

What is Mycelium Leather? Does it exist?
327fed replied to RobertoDR69's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Climate has always changed, up and down. We are just looking at it from a graph with an exaggerated scale. If you leveled it out not so much variation. Don’t think anybody really knows what the temps were 10 million years back. As for 97 % of scientists believing in global warming, I would like to see a list of them. Easy for talking heads on TV to quote unproven stats. As a retired university employee most all the scientists I knew said it was balderdash. If global warming is real why do I keep having to cut so much firewood each winter? -
Chest Holster - Thanks Hags
327fed replied to JWheeler331's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Not for this, but for a carry bag for a Yeti water jug. This guy carries it every day and the plastic clips only last a few months. He takes it out every day to fill. I have seen steel ones but on old items. -
Chest Holster - Thanks Hags

Thanks -
Very nice. What is that milled looking metal doodad that the sling mounts at the rear?

Chest Holster - Thanks Hags

That is outstanding. Simple and rugged. If you don’t mind show the back sometime to see how the straps connect. Also, are the quick disconnects on the right side available in metal? A friend wants me to replace some plastic ones that keep breaking. I wan one for my 10 inch barrel Blackhawk but I don’t have enough chest. -
I always wondered if a scope stayed zeroed on a handgun in a holster. We always went to great lengths to keep pressure off rifle scopes in racks, etc.

If scrap prices would go up a little it would scrap out for $75.

Tattoo ink
327fed replied to Davy's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Used to tattoo cattle in ears with number set in a pliers type device (multiple pins made the number), wipe in a green or black tattoo paste, and wipe off. Wax in cows ear kept the tattoo from staining ear. Lasted the animals lifetime, and that was future leather I guess. Shine a flashlight from rear of ear to read. I bought a little carry around file box at a yard sale. Had a box of pens and scissors in the bottom. Included am EPT and a tattoo gun. Never know what you will find. -
I had a water bottle on the leather bench and a bottle of rubbing alcohol, both open on a hot day last summer. Drank from the alcohol bottle by mistake. Caught myself before I swallowed and spit it out.

I have a well worn and cantankerous Consew 225 with a clutch motor and homemade speed reducer. My friend has a pristine Juki LU 562 with reverse. Looks like it just came from the factory. Would the Juki be a direct swap to my table and motor/reducer setup as they are both Singer clones? I would consider buying his if the table would fit both, but the stuff in my leather shop would make a table swap close to impossible.

Spraying NFO
327fed replied to 327fed's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I have seen people use a pump up sprayer similar to the one Fred pictured to apply mineral oil to hogs backs in the showring. I would guess mineral oil is a little lighter oil than NFO. -
Anybody spray Neatsfoot oil? I have some projects where I need to oil both sides of a dyed product. The rough side is wetformed convex and applying NFO with a rag takes a lot of the dye off. I have tried the water/starch type spray bottles and the NFO (and dye) lock up the little pump in the spray bottle. I hate to pull out the airbrush/mini paint gun for such a little amount of product applied. Anybody got a spray bottle that works? Thanks.

I tried a different version of that holster. Did not turn out nearly as well as yours. I really need to be taller.

The lighn 24 snaps are heavier than the standard Tandy snaps (lighn 20). You can get better snaps, and longer, from Ohio Travel Bag and Steckstore. Chicago Screws work better for me. I have been using 12-13 oz for valet trays (all I had handy) and I ordered 1/2 inch Chicago screws from the same places.

Can anyone help me with a running a 3-phase Juki at home?
327fed replied to williaty's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I bet the control circuit is single phase. Might try swappIng the 3 wires because sometimes converters leave one pole out of balance/phase. -
Yes that is 0.030 inch. Thanks.

.030 waxed thread. I have the awls and the chisels. Just not motivated. If not for a good friend I would say forget it.

I hate to hand sew but I have some work my Consew 225 won’t handle. I need to sew 2 layers of veg tan, 10-11 oz plus a thin pigskin liner. All I have and can seem to find is what they call “doll needles”. These come as a set of 3 or 4 sizes of 2 each, most too small, plus a curved set. I would like to find an online source that would have a pack the same size. Thanks.
