Weather has been lousy so I just watch TV and play with stuff. Made this cross draw holster for my Springfield 1911. Liked the looks so much I made a set of grips to match. Holster is 4oz veg tanned and the grips are from some scraps of 1/4" Veg tanned. Don't know what kind of snake, I bought the skin online last year. Comments are always welcome.

First of all I would like to thank you all for providing such a wealth of information. I’ve been lurking and reading for a few weeks and my Son and I just finished our first holster. I couldn’t have done it without this resource. Ok... Ordered 7-9 veg tan from “T”, scoured this page and borrowed some tools and here we are. I still need to seal it but I don’t think it’s too bad for a first try. Thanks again.

Hello Everyone! I picked up leatherworking a few months ago, and this is a holster and magazine pouch I made for a longtime friend/customer of mine. I work as a gunsmith and shooting instructor, and have always put a lot of care into gear selection. I have a lot of vintage leather pistol gear, and finally decided I should start making my own. I’ve found JLS Leather’s patterns to be a world of help, and a wonderful starting place to develop and grow my skills before tackling my own designs and drawing from other sources. I love Kramer holsters, and have been using a lot of very old DeSantis holsters for a number of years (their pre-makers mark ones, and their “LI,NY” stamped holsters, probably from the 70’s-80’s), and want to recreate some of their older designs and build quality. DeSantis is local, so I have seen many of their holsters for years. Any suggestions, criticism, etc would be greatly appreciated! I’ve chosen to do much of the work by hand; saddle stitched with KS Blade Punch pricking irons, cut with a Vergez Blanchard round knife, edges beveled, sanded and burnished by hand, etc. I am having difficulty using the JLS patterns regarding fitment due to stitching spacing, so I stitched the left side above the sights first, molded around the gun, then stitched beneath the trigger guard. I switched to Fiebing’s Pro Dye and it’s helped greatly over the standard alcohol dye. Leather is Hermann Oak craftsman grade. -Brian

Haven’t been on here in a while! Super busy with day job. Just finished this up the other day. Owb glock 19 holster with a little shark skin trim. Customer wanted a little shine to it. Usually I like more subtle gloss. I love working with shark. Thanks for looking, please critique away with ways I can improve. Mill start by saying I usually hate my belt loop holes. I think I’ll buy a belt loop hole punch I saw once. That should make them more uniform.

These are high quality clicker dies with almost no wear. This is a right hand cross draw holster. My first go around with adding a concho.

I'm looking to install a screw on concho on the loop of a gun holster. How do I make sure the Chicago screw does not scar the holster.

I have an order for a horizontal phone case. I have never made one and I have a couple of concerns.; hoping someone can help me. 1. On vertical cases, I use a simple spring belt clip, but the ones I have are too long for a horizontal case. I am concerned shorter clips might not be secure enough. I've been thinking of some type of decorative clips that can be exposed on each end, or belt loops (perhaps a single wide belt loop) if the customer agrees. 2. If the phone case is horizontal, especially with belt loops, wouldn't this put torque on the phone? Seems like each end of the phone will need to be away from the body. This would have the tendency to flop around and/or hang on things. (construction worker) 3. Seems like with a horizontal phone case the flap would be annoying, since it is so long. Or the flap could be molded and "hinged" to the case with a thin piece. --- or the phone could come out the front and not the top, which seems to me would make a more secure holster. Perhaps I am overthinking this - I hope so. I've scouted around for examples but not seen anything other than the factory made

Hi All, Here's a pancake holster I just finished. Used a 'Gator Embossed' Veg Tan leather from Tandy. It's pretty heavy, probably 7-8 oz.? The lighter colored holster is basically a FAIL (unless I can find a pistol to fit it). I lined the leather with a 3 oz. pigskin, which made the molding very difficult and took up enough inside space that it turned out too small for the pistol I wanted to use it with. After the photo, I removed the dyed grooves and just burnished them. Looks a lot better, but still doesn't fit any pistol I have. Bill

The finished one is ok but I did not like the color. I used eco flo and masters quick shine to resist with. The next one is eco flo antique gel and it looks way better.

Had time to make a few holsters.

My First leather projects that didn't included a baseball glove! Been re-lacing and breaking in gloves for years, decided to try my hand at tooling and absolutely love it! The Journal was the first tooling project and holster was the first sewing project! I also made a baseball glove "pounding pad" with molded foam blocks inside, just couldn't stay away from the gloves. Bonus Cattle Brand popping through the dye on latest learning project.

Custom holster I made for a local. This was my first fold over holster, I usually do pancake style holsters. It’s a Ruger Mag 22. He wanted his initials and the Ruger emblem. Unfortunately this was the only picture I got and the angle is a little funky and makes my stitching look a little funky as well. On the back of the accent piece I wet molded a slot in it for a belt. Hand sewn with black ritza 1mm thread. Don’t mind the gut.
