  2. i have a couple of the blackriver laser guides... easy to use and a inexpensive choice. At work we have many dial indicator gauges that measure leather more accurately... but i doubt most people need to be that picky.... as in the products we make that can't vary by more than 2/10ths of a MM

  6. forget about the price.... as a beginner just choose affordable tools and work on technique... as you gain experience you will decide if there is a good reason to get more expensive tools. I have over 200 craftool of varios ages and a load of Midas tools and a few others... I really want some hackbarth tools.. but why??? I need to master what I have rather than spending more money so get a few basic tools for the style of tooling you like Lew

  10. don't spend money yet... first see what types of items you are interested in making.... Carving leather is a whole different set of tools as opposed to making wallets / purses/ bags
  11. Most anything you can think of can be learned on youtube
  12. yup.... and i have read your site about your garden and log home that you built. You Rock!! PS.. you are the same age as my dad Keep living Life and love what you do. Family is everything.. Lew
  13. leather is a bit light for grooving. I usually use a mallet or upholstery hammer to tap down the thread at the stitch line
  14. I use this type of needle at work.... let me tell you I tape my fingers up while working...but after several hundred stitches a day my hand is cramped and tired from pulling the threads tight all day long!!
