Beaverslayer replied to JustWakinUp's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very nice looking wallet Just, the contrasting shark and stingray work real nicely to make this pop out at you. Ken PS: Must be nice to be able to afford to cut up your yacht cover and turn it into wallets -

IFoLG Columbus Show Entry
Beaverslayer replied to Beaverslayer's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
Well thanks all for the compliments and encouragement, it always makes a guy try harder. Just got back from Canada's version of the Grande Canyon, so no tooling tonight. Shirley, no matter what you decide to make me for the PIF, I know I'm going to like it, you do great work yourself and O always enjoy seeing the seats you make. Ken -

I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee that I picked up at the auction for $270.00, that was a theft recovery. Had to put a new steering column in it that cost another $45.00, so about 4 1/2 tanks of gas altogether. Only down side is that the gas milage sucks with the 4 litre inline six engine. But she runs great. One of my "to Do" things, is to recover the steering wheel I took from the old steering column and re-cover it with a carved and laced one...someday Ken

Very good engineering on this one Ian, it looks very well made as well. Gotta be honest with you though, I can't say a VRod is supposed to have bags on it. Ken

IFoLG Columbus Show Entry
Beaverslayer replied to Beaverslayer's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
Spider, thanks bro, I had to step away from the skulls on this one. Don't want to scare the judges away...LOL Tom, now why did you have to go and mention those Vikings? I'm a real big fan of them as well, and when thinking of what to do on this one, all that came to my old mind was Japanese. Now I have to take a look at doing something Viking also.... Roger, thanks for the compliment, I'm actually thinking of lacing the edges using the "Shirleyz Round Weave", I think it will actually look pretty good that way. Tina, it's mostly the work you have been posting of late that has got meinspired to do this fine of detail. I have to take my glasses off and keep my face about 3" from the leather to see what's happening. So that's another reason I'm not doing it in my lap like you, can't bend that much...LOL The tree wandering over the border is an idea I got from, I believe it was "Storm" on another post where the leaves of the flower went beyond the edge of the leather. It had a hummingbird on it as well. Ken -
Well gas is $1.18.9 per litre here, that works out to $4.56 per US gallon. And to think all of our gas here in Calgary comes from a refinery less than 90 miles away. Really makes you wonder. Ken

Butch, the way the person is holding the lace cutter in the pic you posted is "Way Wrong", here's a link to the tutorial I did on using this cutter, hope it helps. Lace Cutting Tutorial Ken

That's another real nice looking piece Kevin, I always enjoy seeing what you come up with. Ken -
Well, chatting with Johanna last week, she told me that I should enter one of my vests in the IFoLG show this fall. She has said that from what she has seen at previous shows, I should do quite well. Seeing as I cannot attend myself, Johanna has graciously offered to "Hand Deliver" my entry. Many thanks to her for all the things she does for us leather people. So, after about a week of running ideas through my old head, I've come up with something that I hope will do well. After re-reading how Tina said she does her wonderful works, and Tom saying "Boarders" add so much, I've incorporated a bit of their ideas into this. The only thing though Tina, my 30 pound block of granite is a bit to heavy to keep in my lap, so I'm doing it on my small work bench. But taking her advice, and going really slowly, and using just baby taps on the tool, this is what I've come up with so far. Hope you all like it so far. Ken

The Oklahoma Panhandle is the extreme western region of the state of Oklahoma, comprising Cimarron County, Texas County, and Beaver County. Its name comes from the similarity of shape to the handle of a cooking pan. Ken

Great looking seat Roger, looks like the Shirley Weave is a hit now. I like the way you've done the sunburst effect on his one, really make the Skull stand out. Ken

how's the weather where you're at?
Beaverslayer replied to hiloboy's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Well we got about a foot of snow in a little over 2 hours this morning, but now the sun is shinning and all the cars are smashing into each other at the intersections. I think I'll just stay home today and smell the leather. Ken -
Tom, EXCELENT instructions. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to put this together, this is why this forum is the BEST you will find anywhere. I would never have thought that you could form Lambskin in this way and have it hold, very neat. Ken

Pete, great looking work. The flowers are so 3 dimensional. Very nicely done, and thanks for sharing. Ken
