  1. 1862 LONDINI HONORIS CAUSA (Presented at London Because of Distinction) The stamping signifies that the design won a medal of honor at the International Exhibition of 1862, held in London GB.
  2. Ask him to send you a clean piece of the steel and the sheath. Do your own test
  3. This may help also. Its from Tandy's Lacing and Stitching book. Start with #13. #12 us there because its referenced in #15.
  4. Neatsfoot oil may darken the edge a little, Wax would prevent the edge from taking dye, No matter what you use to prevent rust, wipe your tools before using them. That's just standard practice if you use an anti-rust treatment on your stored tools.
  5. From what I know about the P-23 it is not a copy of any firearm.
  6. Glass, is best in my opinion for skiving.
  7. The soda bath? I use 30 seconds. The real danger is making it too strong not leaving it in to long as far as I know.
  8. The reaction on a piece of vegtan that is dipped is all the way through. The disadvantage as I see it is that you need to make sure you neutralize the acid or it will weaken the leather fibers. If you use too strong a baking soda solution you can burn the leather. I use 1 table baking soda to 1 quart water. Remember to oil the leather with neatsfoot oil after it dries. It will really improve the color and return some of the oil to the leather.
  9. Do not store your round knife in a leather sheath. The leather will attract moisture and cause rust. Its the same reason you do not store firearms in holsters. I would not use rem-oil. I live in Denver and never had a problem with rust. If you had to cover it with something Id wipe it down with neetsfoot oil. It would not harm the leather. Michael
  10. Im confused. You need someone else to do some of your bags and you want them to pay you? You need to know how much to charge them to make stuff for you?
  11. Why would you not include material cost???
  12. Stitches closer to the gun as stated before. You did say "Any and all critiques would be welcome." Im sorry but I would never buy a holster like that. To me, personally, it is not a design I find appealing. Style has to be considered if it is something you want to sell. In my opinion, the design looks upside down. The widest part is normally around the belt area to help it stay in place. The radius cuts on the left and right are not symmetrical. That is something that will come with practice but it is noticeable. You have the potential to be good at this. You just need time and practice. Michael
  13. There are very few patents issued to leather products. Patents are more for processes than the product. Were you perhaps asking about a copyright? That is a totally different can of worms. Short version. A person can copyright a pattern. You buy the pattern and you are prevented from selling the pattern. You are not prevented from selling anything made from the pattern. That is the simple version. EVEN IF THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER SAYS YOU CAN NOT SELL WHAT YOU MAKE FROM THE PATTERN, YOU CAN. The law says you can. If you meant Trademark, that is a third issue. Normally you can not use for personal use or to sell a registered trademark. Example. You can not copy the harley motorcycle trademark on to a piece of leather without permission. Some companys allow personal use, some just look the other way but if you try to sell a trademarked item without permission of the trademark holder you can be sued. If its Disney you will be sued. Harley is good about going after people too. Hope that helped and did not confuse you more. You will see people that say it is ok, they have been doing it for years. It's not ok, they just have not been caught. It is your decision how much you want to follow the laws. I was in charge of trademark enforcement for a large Seattle based company for 10 years. We managed to find just about everyone that was using our trademark illegally. It's your choice. Michael
  14. If you can afford it get a sewing machine. You could also do the saddle stitch a different way. Take the needle in the right and go through the holes like you normally would but only one needle. Then go back and put the left needle through the holes like it should . You wind up with a saddle stitch but you get there differently. I had to do this once when I injured my left hand and could not use it. When you are done with the right thread it will look like every other stitch is missing on each side. Thats when you go back with the left needle and fill it in. Its annoying but it works. Michael
  15. The shipping cost might kill you since they are across the pond from us.
  16. An Air Brush would let you control where the Black was applied. 2 Coats of resolene on the natural/tan area would stop the black from getting on that area., When you dye the black have some Isopropel alcohol available. I use that to whip the resisted area if any black gets caught on the resolene. I use B-D Alcohol Wipes. Nice pads and small enough to clean up tiny areas. Just be sure to keep changing the pad so you do not transfer any of the black you just removed.
  17. Nirvana? Isn't that where Pat Sajak stands? Get it? Near Vanna? Sorry but you started it.
  18. I do the same with a 7 foot AL ruler. I clamp the ruler over the leather, to the table so it doesnt slip as I cut.
  19. Springfield leather will cut them for you to any length you need. The price is not bad. I forget what I paid for them when I had 5 cut from a side but it was a good price. Give them a call. They are one of the advertisers at the top of the page.
  20. I use a LR needle. The attached PDF will show you all the stitches you can get with different needles. BRO_SMN_15_EN_01_20130703_150.pdf
  21. It is a book worth getting. Tandy has it in paper and digital download. Here is a sample page from the book. He mentions how to use nad sharpen almost every leather tool. sharpening punches Leathercraft-Tools-by-Al-Stohlmantest.pdf
  22. True, but when I borrow something it always goes back in better condition than I got it.
