on the example of tooling leather - personally, I think HermannOak and WIckettCraig leathers are the top. Despite of 'each' country having tannery doesn't mean they are competitive.
btw - the leather industry we use to create our goods is alive because of traditions and vision - otherwise mass market fitting would be the wrong way to go.

this brings to another point - if we can buy the best tooling leather directly from the source, why pay 2/3 grade for the same price or even higher?
keep in mind that distributors will always get their bucks on reselling for a simple reason - they buy in bulk and on lower prices
