Where are you located? These are an older machine but they are great for what you want Juki LU-563. These machines were made in Japan the mid-80's I think it is one of the best ever produced. It has a huge bobbin and it will sew around 3/8 to 1/2" under the pressure foot with reverse. Don't let any one bs you into paying to much for these machines they are worth what you have set aside for a budget. I would not go beyond that but that is up to you. You might find one on Craig's list, or garbage bay, look for upholstery shops that are closing or selling out look in local for sale or trade papers/websites, government surplus and school surplus. Don't be in a hurry to buy one. Look around first find two or three of the machines and compare each one to the other for the best price and the machine with the best finish. Good luck in your search.

I would check the distance from the edge of the blade to the side of the roller. I would start at 1/4" on both ends and check the middle distance of the blade once you have the ends set at equal amounts. If this doesn't work move the blade closer to the roller 3/16". Check the middle of the blade for same 3/16" clerance. Go to 1/8" clearance if this doesn't work. I would check the frame of the machine with the blade removed. Put a straight edge across it and see if there is any clearance under your straight edge. It should be nice and flat. There can't be to much wrong with the machine it is only a giant leather splitter. Most pull through splitters need to have the blade in the center of the roller or a little bit behind center to cut good. Make sure the blade is sharp enough to shave with. Good luck with your new toy.

Resolene And Water
Geneva replied to chevvy64's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I submerge my project in Resolene straight from the bottle and then wipe off the excess with a rag. If you use this on Herman Oak it will change the color to light British Tan. Once you apply Resolene nothing else will penetrate once it is dried. You will waste the second coat of what ever it is you are trying to apply. You can use worn out tee shirts, shop towles (orange cloth), piece of sheep skin with wool attatched paper towels don't work to good they fall apart. Trial and error works best. Use a lot of test samples. Good luck. -
try this link http://www.bootmaker.com if that does not work try usefulmanuals.com

I have one of these machines (U.F.A.) it doesn't have that bridge looking piece across the top of the machine. It looks like a double L connected at the short arm of the letter. The back of the machine frame is open not enclosed like the newer ones. One of these days I am going to rebuild it.

What Do You Guys Think About The Singer 301 Or 401A?
Geneva replied to Sam Made's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Mr. pcox is right on the nail with his comments. I will add further that you should stay away from garbagebay if you are looking for a sewing machine to do what you want to do. Most of the machines listed on their website are not "industrial strength" anything. Any sewing machine that has an electric motor mounted on the back of the machine frame I don't consider it capable of sewing leather. As far as sewing 18 oz canvas I can not comment on that. I don't know what that (301) machine is capable of. If you want a machine to sew leather you should ask one of the advertisers on THIS website if they have a machine that will meet your needs at your price. Good luck -
That is probably why it sold for parts. As old as the machine is the bearing should slide off with no problem. Could be the cracks are more than just cracks where the bearing fits fo the frame of the machine. It may have been dropped on the upper arm. I hope you did not pay to much for it. Good luck.

Your veg tan will work for the rapair if you can match the color of the bridle. Normally I use English Bridle for the head stalls, halters and bridles.

Hey Cowboymade. No sewing machine is worth that Winchester 94. Just my opinion.

Pfaff 335, Seiko Lsc, Consew 277 Interchagable Parts ?
Geneva replied to najram2007's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I don't know if they will interchange or not. I would imagine they are available. I have an old Adler 167-73. It has a home made bobbin plate on it I thought I would buy a new one can't be too much, right? Keep in mind the Pfaff is more expensive than the Adler. The cost of the bobbin cover was 145.00 plus shipping from the Carolina sewing machine shop!!!!!!!!!!! I would not recommend a Pfaff machine to anyone unless you have more money than you know what to do with. Good luck.- 6 replies

Adler 167 Sewing Thin Leather And Extra Foot For Machine
Geneva replied to marrie's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Your manual that you want is on Durkopp-Adler website. At the dark blue menu bar open the download tab. At the popup on that page type in the class of machine. It will say 67-167 this is the file you want. You need to slow the machine down in order to sew multiple layers of thin leather. I have one of these machines with a servo motor on it and it works great. A speed reducer will work also. Good luck. -
You might want to try some leather floor tile. Most is around 10oz. it is the toughest piece of leather you will ever lay your hands on. You will need to split the smaller oz. from the larger piece. It is usually 12" squares if that will help.

This thing can not sew leather it is a home sewing machine.

There are some leather tools for sale on the www.shopgoodwill.com web site. Just type in "leather tools" at the search.

I have never ran across any Barnsley tools other than the plough gauge I have for sale. Good luck.

What does the top grain look like?? If this is the flesh side I would not worry about it. As long as the good side doesn't look like this. You bought a grade B hide not the Premium hide.
-
I think there are three things causing this. #1 it is the type of leather you are using it is soft #2 You are pulling the stitches too tight. Try a piece of material that has a firmer feel to it if you have it available. #3 the thread might be to big for your needle. My two cents. Good luck.

I had one of these things a couple years ago finally sold it. Tandy does not sharpen the blade at the correct angle or at least the one I had was not right. I had like a 30 degree from horizontal taper on the blade before it cut really good. Good luck.

Best Type Of Metal For Belt Buckle? Where To Buy?
Geneva replied to zaynexpetty's topic in Hardware and Accessories
You should try OhioTraveBag.com. They have an electronic catalog stuffed with goodies. You do not need to have a business tax number all they require is a 50 dollar minimum order. Good luck and stop buying stuff from Tandy.
