Me too uses Angelus paints. I love the way it goes on in thin layers, build it up layer by layer (with proper drying time in between) until you're happy. I also use to put white first but there's no need for that, it just makes it "bulky". Take some scrap pieces and you'll find that the paints will turn out just right and more evenly without the white underneath, good luck//Tina

My way it to use a plastic coated paper plate, I put some dye in one end and some spirit in the other and mix them with a brush somewhere in the middle. I have diluted it maybe even more than 1/10. Built it up layer by layer intil you're happy with the shade and let it dry in between so you can see the results, a hairdryer comes in handy. I enclose a picture of some of my experiments with the dye :-) (Angelus spirit dye)

It seams to me that every time I hear about the Fiebings black dye I hear about the excessive bleeding...Maybe it's time to try another brand? I have used Angelus black spirit dye for some years now and never had any problems with bleeding over to other colors when putting a topcoat on, and I use loads of colors around it :-)

I could not live in the leatherworld without my SK3 knife, it makes the carving a most pleasurable time :-)

Sounds like some of my grand daughters Chineese made tacks. When I look at it it seams to be patent leather, like a film put ontop the leather and heated on so "plastic" might just be right here?

Pink ?

Here's a link to the same topic, I did post some sampe of how the Angelus pink looks in different dilutions: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=35975&hl=%2Bangelus+%2Bpink+%2Bdye -
Cristmas red i notoriously hard to find, I've tried and only made very small successes. What I have come up with works for me and my clients. I use the red dye from Angelus and then I start to ad yellow, a little at the time until I'm happy. Almost all red paints and dyes have to much blue in it and the yellow will offset that but beware, you don't want it to get to orange :-). The only acrylic leather paint I have found that fits the criteria is also by Angelus, their red is just right in my book. This link will take you to the adult section, I made a x-mas paddel using the red acryllic paint... http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=44149&st=0

Shoulder Strap Joining And Adjusting With No Metal Work

Here's an idea I made on a quiver, I hope the picture tells the story :-) -
I use metallic colors and manny of them comes out way better on a base of black dye. You will then not need more than 2 (3) layers of the paint and the whole thing looks much cleaner. Make some tests on scrap pieces with your choise of acryllic paints :-)

Never seen one as fish scale but...Bob Beard makes a dragon scale tool in around 5-6 different sizes, should be the "same difference"? I've seen them been demonstrated live on a leather show and IF I remeber correct they're made to lift up the end.

Hi from the "top of the world" (Swedens place on planet earth) and Welcome to LW. I'm sure in time you're going to get answers for most of your questions. Time is something most of us is struggling to get enough of, if only the day had 48 hours:-) I've always been intrigued by the Maori craft, ever since I was at an art show with one of the wood carves from NZ. I also, Love the tribal tattoo patterns that's "in your face" :-) I wish I have the knollage to know what they all mean.

Fiebing's Black Oil Dye
Tina replied to Mokosh's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use Angelus black spirit dye and Angelus Matte acryllic finisher. The finish comes out perfectly matte IF I use the airgun, otherwise it could be some shine to it. -
I love your thoughts on the subject Mike and "Sultan of Chat" is fine by me

Oil
Tina replied to stef73433's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
After tooling and dyeing...If i oil it before the dye then the spirit dye I use will dry out that layer of oil too. -
