    That's what I was thinking. I should be able to do anything short of saddlery. Which I don't do.

    Update. I now have a 206rb-1 and a cowboy 3200. I think I am pretty set.

    Not really. Quartz is just man-made granite. In large pieces it is a little more flexible/durable. But once set in place the only difference is it being nonporous. However some granites are so dense they are also nonporous. None of this makes 2 rats butts in tooling or stamping though. One is just as good as the other. The thicker the better though. It will have slightly less bounce and a better sound insulation.

    Nifty. This is a really fun hobby. Try not to get discouraged early on. There are plenty of mistakes to be made. And no one can make them for you. You will look back on your early stuff and laugh at how much farther you have gotten. But, even out early stuff will outlive us.

    That book is great for any number of reasons. However, I don't see that way. I use pricking irons to mark my holes. Then, I use my awl to push thru as many holes that are supported by the pony. Then I stitch and repeat.

    Welcome aboard. There are several machines to choose from. No machine will do everything. There are lots of threads here about the different machines. Consider what you want to make the most of.... Then look to the machine for that category.

    They always seemed to be an unnecessary step that ruined many of my first pieces. I can't seem to make all of them disappear. I think I have three right now. Maybe there is a real application for them, but I haven't run across it, yet. Maybe saddlers use them to keep the thread from rubbing on horses?

    @Lobo I had never known about the one inch guage rating. I have worked with all sorts of metal materials in my career. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for that.

    I don't imagine the tariffs to last very long. Other countries have been doing this to us for decades. Once they see how it feels, I believe almost all tariffs will disappear. Hang in there everybody. And thanks SLC.
