  1. Very cool work. Easy to over engineer that, and I think you did the right amount!
  2. I have that book, I'll check out the technique. I think I referenced that book for the first set of handles I made, might be the same. For some reason my vol. 2 is not hanging out with vol's 1 and 3 right now... Heh, yea thats probable! At least I hope they do!
  3. Appreciate it! Thanks!... and uhm, yah. you saw that. lol. Had to get one special made just for this. Might not ever use it again, don't know tho! Thank you much. They are a bit of a challenge with some idiosyncrasies, I think after a couple it is easier. for sure the second handle was easier and came out better than the first. Still left a lot of room for improvement.
  4. For 8 years I've been telling myself I'll make one of these. Haven't done it yet. Kudos to you for doing one!
  5. So, had a request to replace the "leather" pieces off of a tote bag. As you can see, they were not really all leather, more like plastic coated split sections, with broken filler in the handle. So I cobbled up some replacement parts, and did a set of rolled handles. Not the best, but only the second set of rolled handles I have ever done. Think if I have to do another set, I have ideas for improvement, but should be functional for this purpose!
  6. I have that stamp. I have a real hard time running it straight. Yours looks like it came out better than any I have done with it!
  7. Nifty! Some of those could be used as necklace pendants, also. With a leather cord.

That dude looks like a challenge to do. Looks like you met it!
  10. Looks like a significant amount of finish on that wood if it isn't coated in a layer of plastic. Dead OP's murder scene with the blackened scissors weapon onsite appears to be unfinished or minimally finished wood, which would absorb stuff nicely. Although if he is still on this side of the daisies, he should be tempted to try your solution anyhow!
  11. What kind of leather are you using? (brand) I've not had vinegaroon bleed...but I don't do it very much anymore.
  12. Thank you so much!
  13. Yes, acrylic dye is like paint. and resist is usually acrylic, so it would work with that. Pro dyes are alcohol/solvent based, and would tend to penetrate the acrylic resist pretty easily. There is a paint on/peel off type resist for dye, but I've never used it. Search this site you might find some info on it including the name.
  14. Don't worry about critiquing my work, I do it too. I agonized over the letter way too much, hence part of the reason for so many coats of paint. I just wasn't happy with it! Still wasn't, truth be told, but I had to throw in the towel and get it assembled!
  15. Yes, I didn't pay as much attention to detail as I normally do to space the stitches out, I just used a single stitch marking punch that fit and went from there. I was under a time crunch to get it done, and figured it was on the back behind a belt, so not very visible. As I mentioned, it was a gift, so probably won't hear any complaints! I painted the Angelus with a small brush. Used 5 coats of white, and about 3 coats of red on a standard letter stamp.
  16. I've always wanted to do a baseball. Yours are awesome. Thanks for showing off!
  17. Appreciate it!
  18. It is a bit roomy inside for the phone, and a large opening at the top with room to grip, so I think it will work well as yours did. Thanks for the compliment! Thanks! Its a gift, so I probably won't hear any complaints. Hoping it outlasts the previous one he was using! Typical mass produced soft leather that fell apart as soon as it possibly could.
  19. Take a look at the Fiebing's Oxblood, diluted 50/50. You would be surprised. Think there may be some photos on this site too showing how bright it comes out. edit to say: found one of them.
  20. Thank you, and glad you found a source, mine was from a pile of hardware I picked up somewhere along the way! Thanks, and I hope so!
