  1. Nice looking work, both knives and sheaths. Does that short blade knife have a stacked leather handle? It looks great whatever its made of.
  2. I do believe you are correct. The flower centre indicated, appears that each dot is individually stamped. Also the other flower centres appear to be slightly imperfect, which is exactly how nature would be, so that's still OK.
  3. Sanding is just making more scratch marks on the surface, so I would stay away from that idea. Depending on how deep the scratches are, maybe a re-dye will cover most of them. Maybe a de-glaze will help to reduce the dye that is already on the surface, so a re-dye will work better plus prepare the surface for refinishing and/or oiling. Disclaimer: No real idea, just spit-balling here.
  4. There was a post on Gumtree earlier this week. Somebody was selling a heap of letterpress typeface. I just had a look, but whilst I could not find that post, there are dozens and dozens of other posts all over Australia.
  5. I have used cheap acrylic artist paint on leather, but I found it adhered better if the first coat was thinned down about 1:1 with water. The resist is applied prior to antique, but only on the parts where you want the antique to be applied less. So, if you have a design stamped or carved that you want to highlight darker, apply the resist all around the design so the antique has no effect on that part. I agree with @DJole that you have not given yourselves much time to learn, practice and practice and practice some more. Most important thing ... have fun and enjoy what you are doing.
  6. Welcome @RWiggins. There's lots of information, ideas and projects to look at. All you gotta do is ask, if there's anything you need to know.
  7. Yep. There's a few ... dozen. Welcome @Foxen
  8. I think the gauge on my press read about 5 tonne when the 8 - 10oz leather cuts with clicker dies, so 160kg is not even in the same game, let alone the same ballpark. A lot will depend on the size of the clicker die, the thickness, hardness and temper of the leather.
  9. Cut out the window, but save the piece to go in behind the kangaroo. There's a knife sheath somewhere here, that has this exact setup. It looks so much better with the inlay at the same level as the top layer.

    Quality tools

I think the difference with leatherworkers is the range of tools required. I don't think there is one quality complete company that supplies most tools, IMHO.
  11. Ypur tooling looks reasonable, stitching looks good. I cannot see if your edges are burnished, but they might need a little more. Overall, a pretty decent effort for a beginner. On to the next one.
  12. Looks pretty good to me. I cannot see where you screwed up anything.
  13. I am guessing it could be any one of many different manufacturers. Is there no indication on the label on the spool, or on the side of the box?
  14. LOL Yeah, but ... a sprite? I would rather drink water. Ohh yeah ... nice job on the bag/box/case. The lacing on the front flap will hopefully even up over time, as it gets used.
  15. WOW! You really do "Do It ALL" I like the monogramming.
  16. WOW! That is amazing! I would really like to see the full process.
  17. If you were deadest on refurbishing your punch, you could bend the handle back to its original shape, then reinforce the handle with a piece of solid steel bar, or a piece of flat steel bent to fit in or over the existing handle and riveted in place. Depending on your ability working with steel, this may be too much for your consideration, and sending it out to be repaired WILL cost more than the original tool. The repair may not last all that long, as stress is transferred to another weak point. I agree with @TomG. Buy a new better punch.
  18. That is pretty smooth! Are you sure its not a single stamp made to look like a flower centre?
  19. I have no knowledge of the possibilities, but I do not have anywhere near the level of anxiety you are having. I don't wear a mask for any sanding and glue-up I do without getting too close to the glue can or the project. I did buy a mask for using when spray painting, which I have plans to try out, sometime in the future.
  20. I have no idea what you are trying to do ... and ... less than a single day for a reply?? Please! Wait for people to actually see your post before calling people out over a non-reply.
  21. That's a lot of shoes. Our crocodiles grow to 16 or 18 feet long!
  22. WOW! That is an excellent job. From the shoes themselves, to the carved flowers and capped off by that Mexican braid. Truly a work of art. I am just wondering if that tab at the heel is a little 'industrial' for these shoes?
  23. Alligator shoes sound like a great idea ... but, how do you get the alligator to wear shoes?
  24. If you wet the leather then dry it with a very low heat, the leather will stiffen. Alternatively, glue and sew a thin backing (like 2.0mm leather) to your project, that can assist with stiffening up the project.
