What type of bag are you trying to make? That would dictate the type of leather I'd want to use.

I'm a firefighter and paramedic for my pay the bills job. I used to be a finished carpenter and cabinet maker and have gone back to it on and off as part time work, now I drive a truck part time/full time hauling heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, boom lifts) and anything else that'll fit on the trailer or I can get a permit for. Got into this crazy craft by chance making radio straps for the guys at the firehouse. Now I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I give it ago as part-time work.

Two Ruger Single Six Holsters
Fire88 replied to Rohn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nicely done -
I’ve tried multiple time to dye thin leathers different colors inside and out and have had zero luck. As far as getting rid of the green I’m not sure it’ll take dye since you’ve already finished/sealed it.

Custom Shoulder Rig
Fire88 replied to Bayou Bengal's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Fantastic rig and gesture on donating it to the Sheriff's Office, I am digging the blue thread as well. -
I just bought a CB3200 from Cowboy Bob at Toledo Industrial. I looked at the 227r but with the thread limit of 207 and what I will be doing and planning to do I will need heavier thread than 207. I've used needle nose pliers plenty to hand sew. I won't completely give up hand sewing as some projects there are no other options.

Help with stitch line around a tight curved corner
Fire88 replied to Webicons's topic in How Do I Do That?
That top pieces looks much better with the one round in the middle of the corner. I use my two prong chisel to creep up on an the end of a line. -
After a couple days with this machine practice/learning Friday night and Saturday today I sewed two holsters a card wallet and a dead weight. My confidence with the machine is quickly growing as I’m learning how to anticipate its next stitch placement on curves. The ability of this machine to creep along one stiith at a time is amazing especially when sewing curved lines.

Machine options- baldericks, sheaths,holsters,belts
Fire88 replied to w0lfgh0st's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I would contact a couple of the retailers and talk to them. Tell them what will be made and sewn to include thickness and types of leather. They will be able to suggest a machine that best fits your needs. -
Thanks Bob, used the inline feet to sew all of it. They were a dream for sewing around the belt clip.

First piece off of it ended up being for my brother.

Fire88 replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks Whiz much appreciated, I thought those were the screws described in your initial description. As I am new to these machines and I just bought this friday from Bob I don't wanna do something dumb and mess it up. update: I got them working and set up properly, guess I can get the first two projects finished up now -
Nice set you have, I'll eventually get there.

Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500

Is this the whole and two screws your talking about? No matter how I rotate the handle I can not get to the lower screw though the hole. -

Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500
Fire88 replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Ok so I got the front(needle foot) set right it has down pressure holding the piece in place. The rear inline(outer foot) has zero pressure on it when I turn the wheel by hand. How do I get it set so it hold the piece as the front foot comes up? -
Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500
Fire88 replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thank you for the video this explains much better, the manual does. Thanks Bob I looked at the manual last night and just couldn't get it right. I will work on adjusting it properly when I get back home this morning. I did get the standard feet back on last night and adjusted back to right. -
Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500
Fire88 replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I remembered how to raise and lower the needle bar, but the back foot I can't remember for the life on me. Whiz's description helps and I took off the side cover but I'm lost from there. -
Inline Cowboy presser feet on Cowboy CB4500
Fire88 replied to Wizcrafts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I'm trying to install the inline presser feet on my 3200 and am having difficulty adjusting the foot to hold down the piece as it sews. I am sure it's simple and I Remember bob telling what to do but now I forget. Thanks -
A good bit of testing and playing with the machine last night and this morning sewing scrap pieces. I'm delighted with how it performs and what I'll be able to do in short time with it. I tried sewing two pieces of saddle skirt and it sewed it well at speed but slowing way down it hung up a tad. I'm assuming I just need to go up a needle size and it'll sew flawlessly through the thick dense leather.
