I got screwed into buying a sewing machine from a sales guy - I thought I asked all the right questions, and all that, and he told me yes, it was perfect for leather work and all that.... I get it, no... no way.... I felt burnt... then I realized what I should have before I started the transaction, He is a sales man trying to sell the damn thing.... I should have went to an impartial source of info before buying to ask about it....

A very good friend died in a motorcycle accident a while back and his family and friends got together and formed a memorial scholarship fund at the collage he was going to when he passed. In order to help fund that scholarship, we decided to create an annual fund raiser in the form of a poker run. I am the one that has been left with the responsibility of organizing this yearly event. So I am coming to you, my fellow leatherworkers, to ask if you can help me...... Anything you might have that you think would make a nice addition to the raffle or auction tables or even as a door prize would be much appreciated. We (I) have not set a date for this years Run, but it will be towards the end of May into the beginning of June. If you have something, it doesnt matter, a nicknack, something leather, motorcycle related or not, whatever that you would like to donate, please contact me and I will give you the details of where to send it to. Thanks Mike

Not a corporate store? How do you know which is which? Mine is actually a Leather Factory.... is that corporate? Why is there Tandy, and then Tandy Leather Factory? You know.... you have no idea how true that statement really is... reading what you said made me realize, if i did not have a TLF here local, I would not be into leather....

here is one on ebay, just the head: http://cgi.ebay.com/JUKI-DDL-555-ONE-NEEDL...1QQcmdZViewItem the starting price is $100.00 plus $75 shipping.... I would say for $200 you would be getting a damn good deal... just dont know if it is a good machine for what you need it for... if anything you can buy it, and resell it on ebay or here on LW.... here is one that is completed, head, table, and motor, for just over $300 plus freight: http://cgi.ebay.com/JUKI-DDL-555-5-industr...1QQcmdZViewItem Maybe not worth it.... might just be good for cloth...

I dont know much about sewing machines, but I have heard Juki is a good brand.... it comes with the head (machine) and the motor, along with the table and peddles? I would think it is a good deal..... Get Art to weigh in on this....

With me being out of work 99% of the year, if I was not a stay at home daddy, I would enjoy working at Tandy.... or any other supplier for that matter.... My tandy moved locations, and when i was finally able to get to the new location, my favorite employee was gone and replaced by some guy who had no knowledge of leather what so ever.... I was slightly mad that I missed the opportunity to work there, but I got over it quickly because I knew I would not be able to work there anyway.

Stamping is using say craftool number x498 to do a basketweave on your leather, that is stamping. Carving is when you use a knife and several other "stamping" tools to create the same basketweave. -
Drac, since you do alot of stripping for your floggers and what not... do you tape the back of the leather to keep it from stretching?

mine went down sunday too... but was back up by noon on monday....

What OZ is that veg tan you used?

When you wet it to stretch it, did you soak it then stretch it, or let it go back to normal color first before stretching? Did you start stretching from the bottom part and staple it then stretch it around? or did you stretch it all at once stapling last?

If this server is anything like the server I have my site on, it isnt a dns issue, it is a index issue... for some reason, the index on my site is htm when you go directly to it, but if you go www to my site i had to create a different index as an html (or vice versa... been awhile since I had to do this...).

ABN, I think you are onto something.... I have http://www.leatherworker.net/forum/index.php bookmarked and it asks me to log in, but I removed the www like you said and the page opens without me having to log in....
