  1. Especially when it doesn't follow the rules!
  2. Loads for me. It has even less reach. It would be relatively easy to modify the reach, or build one with longer reach. Just need to see the idea to make one.
  3. Good mechanics usually beat the flat rate, so could pick up a couple hours extra most days, sometimes more. My brother did really well on flat rate jobs in the 1960s.
  4. Finally figured this one out several years ago. Flammable, it burns, inflammable is nearly explosive. You would call wood flammable, and solvents inflammable.
  5. I use a JP Tack Tool like this. Or like this one.
  6. You need to identify if you will ship, where to, who pays.
  7. Moved to leather sewing machines.
  8. You need to tag or quote the person so they get a notification. @BurntLeatherCo you have a query.
  9. Moved to leather sewing machines. You'll get more help here where the machine guys hang out. What are you sewing when the stitches are good? Makes a difference to helping you figure out the full cause. Thickness and type of materials, needle size, thread size? Most often loose threads on the bottom are a result of not enough top tension to pull the thread up.
  10. You should make a new post this in Machinery -- Cutting/Leatherworking used
  11. Note from the name plate the motor is 240 V 3 phase, wye connected.
  12. Moved your post to Saddle Construction.
  13. Moved to all about leather. There are past threads and topics about both preventing and removing mold. Worth searching them out. They may be in the tooling area, or in dyes, finishes, etc. I have used Listerine, just the amber color. I wouldn't use the blue stuff for fear of it leaving a blue stain. It works.
  14. Moved to Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
  15. If you do a search here, you will find a number of threads about removing mildew and mold.

  17. Hi Ferg ... Please list your shipping costs and where you will or will not ship to.
  18. According to the IP address @Piko is located near Santa Clara, California, 95052. It's a good idea to list your approximate location in your profile. It helps you get answers or help that is more likely to be relevant to your area.
  19. Moved your post to leather sewing machines. You are more likely to get some help here where the machine guys hang out.
  20. That's the only way you are going to be able to see what's in the PDF file. And YES, Rocky is great.
  21. Moved your post to leather sewing machines. This is where the machine guys hang out. A longer video would be helpful. You can post it on YouTube and link to it here. Above and below the feed dogs.
  22. Definitely not mold. If you do a search, you'll find this has come up a number of times and has been answered by me and others. Can be very disheartening when it happens. Oxalic acid (as Bruce says) is a good remedy, as long as there isn't a piece of iron/steel buried in leather, possibly from a band knife during a splitting operation. Takes a little longer to show through than when it is on the surface. Pattern was traced on and all the swivel knife work was done when it showed up the next morning. It was in a 1" wide border area, else I may have been able to hide it with some tooling and dye or paint, especially if it was in the back grounding. Search for blue, black gray spots. It's the same process as vinegaroon.

  24. May be due to the knots being thicker than the leather, so can't be hidden in the leather. This table might be of help for you too.
  25. If you get too close to the edge, sometimes the needle slips through the edge. I'd have to practice a lot to avoid that. Another option is to lace the edges with a double loop pattern. It hides the edges really nicely, and I don't have to slick the edges. Even though I have a machine capable of sewing leather now versus years ago, some of my work is still laced, especially when customers see how it looks. You can do even fancier lacing than the double loop. It does take a lot longer to build. And it fits with doing tooling.
