  1. Neatsfoot after tooling before dying to put oils back in the leather. Some people use oil as a dye or finish. Olive oil etc and then sun tan. So really depends on what you are trying to do. Put on in light coats a little goes a long way. David
  2. What he said. Just relax focus and do exactly the same thing over and over. Once you have the muscle memory and the feel it will be easier. Having said that, it is why I learned to lace, I hate to hand stitch but it sure is nice when it is done right. Good luck David
  3. Very nice job. Like the coloring of the flowers and the tooling looks nice. David
  4. Very nice first project. Like the tooling and the color is very nice. Lacing is a pain but it gets easier with practice. Thanks for posting it. David
  5. They are complicated but yours came out looking great. Like to see a pic of it on the bike. Thanks for posting it. David
  6. Put a coat of clear lac spray on it depending what is already on it. You put shoe polish on it and it will rub off. I would test whatever you decide to spray on it on a piece of scrap that you have put Eco flow finish on. David
  7. You could glue a piece of rubber on the inside of the lid. It will slow it down some. You are going to get some water in it with the way the flap closes anyway. Leather bags get wet in the rain going down the road. That is why God invented plastic bags so don't stress too much about it. They are good looking bags, I do use Aussie conditioner on all my leather on the bike David
  8. I have done a guitar strap with the foam from a craft store that they sell for kids crafts. It is closed cell foam, I put one layer in " about an 1/8 th inch thick" and then lined it with 2 ounce leather and laced it. You can get thicker closed cell foam at Wally World in the sporting goods section the work out mats are about 1/2 inch thick. Let me know if find a better idea. David
  9. Good looking collar. Thanks for posting it. David
  10. Very nice, good design and I like the way you mounted them. David
  11. Look at the post by Bob Parks on finishing edges. Best I have found so far. I believe it is in " how do I do that section" but there are great tutorials on that and finishes there. David
  12. Looks good, like Chief said great job on the front layout and design. David
  13. You have to let everything dry completely, that is what probably caused you problem in the first place. But you know that now. That is one of the hardest things to learn in this craft. When to put it down and walk away to let it dry. Good luck David
  14. A machine shop could probably make one up for you if you don't have any luck finding one. Just make sure you take all the parts with you and the hooks. David
  15. Go the post by hidepounder on finishing edges in this section. Covers it all, put your stitch grove in after your edges are straight. Good luck David
