  1. Thanks Ross! I have some upholstery leather - do you think it would work for a Dopp Kit? Gary
  2. Looks great! There’s something very satisfying about stitching thick leather so effortlessly! Gary
  3. Nice job Ross - I am going to have a go at one of these soon. Did you use a pattern or just cut as you go? Gary
  4. Congratulations Fred! I’m certain you will enjoy using all your leather scraps to practice your sewing. Don’t forget to wind a few bobbins in each thread size/color right away so you have them ready when you want to switch thread. Gary
  5. DarkGoku - I agree with you 100% - I have 3 machines not because I need them but because I enjoy sewing with them. I’m semi-retired and don’t sell much, mostly make things for friends and family. I volunteer to repair harness for a local stable that works with disabled children. I look at it more as entertainment than work. I also handstitch some items for the same reasons you mentioned - don’t have to check threads, sample stitch, etc. I like to make beer growler caddies and I must say the cylinder arm machines make sewing around the borders a pleasure! Our situations are all different and what one person spends on machines another may use the money for travel, cars or other hobbies or things that they enjoy. Gary
  6. Yes, it is Edge Paint- available from several sources. Brands include Fenice and Giardini. Gary
  7. Looking good Brian! How durable is the fish skin? When I think of fish skin, I think of how easily it tears when I’m eating a fish filet! Gary
  8. Thanks Max! Look forward to seeing more of your projects! Gary
  9. Nice job! Your stitching looks great and your friend should be thrilled! What weight leather did you use? Gary
  10. You are burning the leather, not burnishing it. Your grinder is spinning too fast and you are using a grinding wheel. You need to slow it down and put on either a burnishing attachment or buffing wheel and maybe use less pressure. You will be better off just wetting the edges and burnishing by hand with a piece of wood or canvas. Gary
  11. Looks like you have a nice space to work on leather and you will find more projects once you get your CB3200! I find my biggest problem is cutting leather from a side - I don't have a nice big, EMPTY worktable, so I lay the hide on my pool table, layout the pattern, cut outside the pattern with leather shears, then take the smaller piece to my workbench to final trim to size. I need to reclaim some basement space from my wife! Gary
  12. Brian - I didn’t even consider the extra weight might affect the table movement. Your idea about drilling a hole in the base to add sand sounds easier anyway! Thanks for your input - always interesting to see the projects you come up with! Gary
  13. Please post your location so we know where you are shipping from. Gary
  14. That is so cool Brian! Still don’t understand how you get from idea to completed project, but I really like the idea. Is it pretty stable from toppling over if you brush against the handle accidentally? When you are printing these, is it possible to pause the printer and perhaps add some shot or other heavier ballast to the base for extra stability, and then resume printing? Maybe not necessary in this case, but got me thinking. Gary
  15. Why not just glue and sew a strip of 1-2 oz leather to make a nice edge? I do this on the growler caddies I make. Gary
  16. Really nice work Bob! I have a question about the shell stamping - do you start from the top and work your way down? I think that is the case, but sometimes it is not so obvious to me! Also, what weight leather did you use? Gary
  17. Don’t see any pics. Reduce file size and attach to the posting - click on the link at the bottom of the page Gary
  18. I would call Toledo Bob or Solar Leather and talk with them about what is missing and how much it will cost to get it running. A new CB4500 will run $2000+ so you might be able to get a running unit for much less. They are listed in the ads up top of the page. Gary
  19. I’m with you on the pebble backgrounder. I save the seeder backgrounder for small areas. Gary
  20. Looks real good, but that backgrounding must have taken a long time to stamp! Gary
  21. Guess it depends how much they are asking - if they want $300 it is a steal, but if they want $2500, not so good....somewhere in between is probably what it is worth Gary
  22. Noob - looks good! Our capacity is 15 US gallons now. Suppose we should move this topic to the home brew forum now! Gary
