  1. More importantly, how long did it take between when you sent him payment and when you received it??
  2. The Seiwa ones are much better quality than those tandy pieces of garbage. I would strongly recommend anyone considering purchasing stitching chisels to go view Nigel Armitage's comprehensive reviews on them on youtube. I personally have used both and the Seiwa ones are the best in my (and others') opinion.

    Get Back Whip

She sells Packer lace and upcharges it. You'd probably get a better deal directly from Packer. Also, that linda woman is in canada, so if you're in the US, you'd still have di deal with international shipping either way.I cut my own lace now, but when I bought lace, I bought from Peter at Leatheroo.com. I highly recommend going with him...he's nice and his prices are better. He can be reached at sales@leatheroo.com.
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Level-Tool-J60-Aluminum/dp/B0009WG5F8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443580604&sr=8-1 Buy one and start cutting. The one I use is actually an aluminum level so it has a higher edge to protect my fingers better.
  5. If you're having trouble with your bell knife skiving machine (Fortuna, Fratelli / FAV, Ellegi, Consew, Cowboy, etc.), you should probably watch this video. It's probably the best explanation of how to properly prepare and use these machines that I've seen...pay close attention to the sharpening part...it is critical to getting the machine to skive/split properly. https://youtu.be/ysGu3LEitYc
  6. I have a nice Blanchard plough gauge and it still works great for cutting straps. Most recently I cut some 1.5" straps from 10oz bridle to make a ranger belt. No problems at all.
  7. Leggings, whatever...I've seen them referred to incorrectly (and in numerous seemingly legitimate places) as puttees...I've searched both spellings because some people spell it the way I did before. Some people are also under the impression that the "calvary" was a branch of the army. Guess they've never heard of the CAVALRY...so I always search both spellings of that too. Anyway, yes...I'm looking for leather leggings patterns. From my research, "gaiters" usually refer to a covering that covers part of the shoe underneath and is generally shorter than the leather leggings I'm trying to make. What I'm looking for basically look like tall leather boots without the part below the ankle. Hope that's easy enough to follow now.
  8. Note to OP...Not everyone cuts a stitching groove into their leather and it is NOT required that you do so...don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise. If you have any questions, please PM me and I'll help.
  9. You really are going to need the large, heavy balance wheel. I'd seriously consider the Consew over the LS-1 for what you're trying to do.
  10. The LS-1 will not do what you want to do unless you also buy the Monster II balance wheel, fyi... It's another $119...I have had the LS-1 and now have the LSZ-1. If I were to do it again, I'd consider getting a Consew 206-RB. I may still sell the LSZ-1 to get the Consew one day after all, but for now I can do everything I need to do between the LSZ-1 and my CB3200...even though the backside stitches from the 3200 look like garbage.
  11. Youtube. Nigel Armitage / Armitage Leather. "Saddle-stitch in detail" Watch repeatedly until you get it.
  12. Yeah, I've seen baseball glove wallets a few times before. Apparently others have been making them for a while.
  13. Way, way overpriced on there...especially for ones that are unusable for just a pattern. Crazy ********* are trying to get $50+ for those. I notice no one buys them, but they never lower the price. I was hoping someone knew of a company that had a pattern for these. Maybe I will produce a pattern and sell it if I can't find one.
  14. I posted this in the boot and shoe category and got no replies, so I'm hoping someone here will help me. I need to make myself a set of leather leggings and would like them to be in the pattern of WWI military leather leggings. If anyone has a pattern for them I could buy or knows where I could buy a pattern, I'd really appreciate it. Most of the ones I've seen haven't been lined, but I was thinking of lining with natural veg tanned leather and using bridle for the outside. I'll post pics of ones I'd like to make in a bit... Thanks in advance for any help.
  15. Probably shouldn't bother posting this due to the dearth of help offered from this thread already, but I need to find a source of one of the hardware bits used on these. It's a metal, rectangular loop that's flat on one long side. That's so that it can be held in place on the top edge by a strap sewn over it and it won't rotate. The loop is 5/8" wide (inner width) and about 3/8" inner width on the shorter dimension. Anyway, I know most of you won't help me, but I'm hoping some of the hardware vendors on here will see this and may be able to sell me some of those pieces.
  16. Oh, I'm glad you told us. Looked machine stitched.
  17. They want to sell it all as a lot, but as long as we're all going to post what parts we'd like anyway, I'd be interested in the acrylic templates.
  18. Yeah, you upload them to a free image hosting service like flikr, imgur, etc and then post the links to them here. You'll get lots more interest if you do that...
  19. My Dixon English point punches are exactly symmetrical, fwiw...
  20. There's these... http://www.buckleguy.com/custom-logo-plates-and-zipper-pulls/ I think they use escutcheon pins instead of adhesive...
  21. As far as I know, heat embossing is the only way to imprint chrome tanned leather for it to last any length of time. Some people try to say they stamp it without heat and it lasts, but in my experience, that is not the case. If you're worried about the fumes (?), do it outside...standing upwind...with a fan behind you...
  22. Thanks for the detailed info...I may have to order some templates from them soon...
