Can someone make a pattern for this wallet
bikermutt07 replied to Fcapela's topic in Patterns and Templates
Nigel has a Vimeo Channel that is less than 4 bucks a month. His pattern making video paired with his wallet package should give you all the knowledge you'll ever need. That being said, there are lots of patterns and templates available on Etsy. I don't have this particular one or I'd be glad to share it. -
Overwhelmed by leather Sewing machines
bikermutt07 replied to Starwind0's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
As long as you aren't doing holsters..... The consew 206rb comes to mind I have a 206rb-1. The last number mostly deals with the oiling system. Mine is a wicking style. The newer ones have a pump which may or may not run enough to properly oil the machine since we sew leather slowly. I'm totally not an expert. I'm actually still pretty terrified of it and the 3200 I have. Just some of my thoughts. The consew on the used market can be pretty cost effective and most of the accessories (that I know of) are commonly available as singer 111 parts. It will sew 169 top and bottom and see 207 on top with 169 on bottom. Both of these threads should be suitable for common belts and straps, but not tack. -
Thanks

The Chinese clones coming from dealerships like Cobra and Cowboy are built to their specs (pretty sure they even have control over metals used). Then they are gone through, inspected, and adjusted before you receive them. They are a far cry from cheap Chinese junk. Yes, China has built quite a reputation for themselves the last 70 years. But look at the market they had.... They were instructed by large wholesalers to build to a price point. They had no access to smaller companies or end users. They were just building to a price point set out for them, with probably no feedback from end users. Fast forward to today and you have some quality stuff coming out of China. Being built to higher tolerances and standards. I have several quality made tools from Wuta and Kevin Lee, as well as quality pocket knives from Kizer. China is moving forward on quality. They have a long way to go to fix that reputation, but they are trying.

207 is kind of the middle of the spectrum. It's fine for things like belts but too small for gun holsters (mostly due to safety). I believe cobblers use 416 to sew soles to shoes.

I got my Japanese 206rb-1 for $400. That included a new servo and table. Deals a re email definitely out there. I'm sure you know you just have to keep an eye out and sooner or later one will show up.

Handbag for the Wife

The bag does look great and I really liked the write up. -
Interesting thing concerning the history of shoes..... I believe I read twice in recent history (1500 years or so) the art of asymmetrical lasting was lost, and then rediscovered. Many shoes were made at times with symmetrical lasts or a single last. This made the break-in period a real task.

Cross Draw Knife Sheath

That is nice. Thanks for showing the blade as well. Well done. -
I completely agree. Y, you may want to check out this guy's series on doing shows. He has lots of real experience working craft fairs. His insights are very spot on from what I have seen. https://www.youtube.com/user/wortheffort Small impulse items do well, and Sean brings bigger ticket items more for display to attract orders. One thing I have noticed working only a few shows (in my area) is, no one seems to stock any "Man Stuff". These poor husbands just look bored to death being drug from one booth to the next. All the shows I haven't worked, I have been that poor bastard being towed along looking at earrings and necklaces. Just the kind of insight that may help.

Apologies, guess I got hung up on one of those "it's all about me moments". Sorry. Cheers.

Mine are grain side up. I'm not saying I'm doing it right or why, but it seems to work fine. I never understood or heard why people put the flesh side up?

While the books listed are old, there is lots of useful stuff in them. I bought this as more of a reference and haven't thumbed through it much since it arrived. At the price it is a no brainier to add to your reference materials. I would purchase it again if I hadn't already.

@$$hobby, I can appreciate all you are saying. However, I'm a hobbyist with no interest in building a business and I stear far and clear from tack and saddlery. I make totes, bags, wallets and such. I doubt I will run into any hard use experience like you are referring too. It is definitely good information though, and thanks for sharing it.

I found very limited selection on solid brass items at OTB. I live in the southern USA so I doubt breakage will be much of a problem. I decided to lean towards brass for consistency purposes. I'm tired of not having matching hardware. There is always something I'm missing in the desired color of hardware on a project. Also, I've never seen anyone scoff at the idea of using solid brass. Seems like a good selling point.

Finally did a belt.
bikermutt07 replied to Madmax500000's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That looks very classy. I'm a big fan of tooling that peaks beyond the border lines. I'm not even sure why I am a fan of that, but I'm wholeheartedly for stepping outside of borders. -
If it's all dried out then it will be much lighter than it should be. You can't take a bath without getting wet. Tell them you make no guarantee that it won't darken. Think about dry skin. It is whitish looking until you put lotion on it. Then it returns to it's conditioned color. Leather is skin. Just educate your client. They will either understand or allow their item to continue to deteriorate. It's up to them. That being said.... Hide rejuvenater does really well at bringing things back to life. .

This is an excellent well thought out kit I have been pointing people towards. The tools are of medium to higher quality. I have most of them and use them all the time. The punches are top notch as well as the dividers. The knife is good as well. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153433833827 Looking closely at this kit, it also includes a cutting mat, a pounding board for punching and an acrylic template for the wallet. I have the wallet set and carried that wallet for about a years. It was a good wallet. If you can afford it you may want to step up to the next in which the pricking irons are very nice. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153432722499 Both kits will get you going and take a minute to arrive from China. I have had dealings with Wuta for over three years and they have never let me down. While you are waiting, start reading here.

I have only ever seen the secrets book. They usually sale between 75-120 if memory serves. I have one in poor condition, but it's all there.
