My knives took awhile to get here, but he always responded quickly to emails. -

Thanks Brian. With all the 3d printing and crocodile wrestling you do, I appreciate you taking the time to help folks out. -
Hahahahaha, dang spell correct.

It's probably mostly ascetics. I see lots of extra stitches on Tony See's patterns?

Welcome aboard. I too have recently gotten into sewing machines. I'm still pretty intimated by them. They always look at me menacingly when I walk into the studio.

Keep it up

Leather work swap who would be interested?
bikermutt07 replied to Rossr's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I'm just not even in tooling gear. Especially not to rush and finish. I haven't even started to try and do it yet, even though I have the tools. Previous joint pain kept me from even thinking about developing that skill. The joint pain is much better than it was thanks to my current eating habits, but I haven't tried my hand at trying it again. But, I will definitely consider it for next month. Good luck everybody, and have fun. -

I may try the next round. I hate commitment though. Lol -
There ae no dumb questions here. This place is frequented by many many real professionals who are happy to help. This isn't the kind of place where people get snobby. Just lots of fine folks willing to share information to keep this craft alive. They have helped me immensely over my five years of playing with leather. Ask when you need help.

Absolutely you can. Have at it and have some fun.

And what are we talking when someone says crust? I've been doing leather work for about 5 years now off and on (and reading consistently) , but I am just now starting to here this term "crust" thrown about. I'll admit to not knowing everything, but could I have overlooked this term that much in the last 5 years? So, I'm wondering if this isn't the new "buzz word" in leather? If I'm mistaken, by all means educate me. Thanks

And where were you 5 years ago? Do you know how much I could have saved?

Those are some good pics. I'm going to try the method you described @wizard of tragacanth

Glad it's working out for you.

I use granite, quartz, or glass with varying grits of sandpaper. I think that is the most cost effective method I have seen. I do have a 1x42 Kalamazoo belt grinder that I use on punches, pocket knives and similar stuff. That was a great investment. 5 minutes every couple of weeks to keep my EDC in good shape.

East Coast Leather shows?? Do they exisit?
bikermutt07 replied to Rossr's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
The one I know of in Texas is in Wichita Falls. I think it is pretty early in the year. And, I think technically it is a rodeo that kind of grew to be a leather show. If there is one in St Louis that is as far east as I have heard of....... -

That's coming along nicely. Keep it up. Most of the tricks here are gained thru practice. You are well on your way. -
Back to all the fun.... I am liking the offerings from Kevin Lee of Crazy Cut Leather. I don't have one of his head/round knives. But, I now have three of his other styles and would gladly recommend checking h out on eBay or Facebook. He has a large following on Facebook and lots of good reviews. Shipping takes a minute, but his stuff (price wise) falls nicely in-between production and custom pieces.
