The only ones I've seen at hardware or home stores are already attached to work belts and such. You may have to make one. Jeff

A lesson we've ALL learned at one time! My little finger nail grows faster than the others. I have to watch it carefully as I tend to curl that finger under when tooling. Jeff

Dursley Pedersen bicycle 1903 replica luggage

That is a unique seat support arrangement! I just did a gusset on a messenger bag, and can't imagine doing that one you did. Great bag. Jeff -
Soft leather is always a challenge, but in answer to your last sentence, yes. Thickness is your friend. Jeff

Airpods case ver.2 (Using X-stitch)
alpha2 replied to Hahn's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That looks much better than the last one. There is a place for the baseball stitch, but this project works better with the X. Jeff- 5 replies

There is Biothane, I haven't used it, but it's apparently completely waterproof and easy to clean. I don't know if it stretches. I do veg-tan leashes with two pieces glued back to back and treated with a mix of beeswax, neatsfoot oil and paraffin, they seem to hold up to moisture pretty well. Also bridle leather leashes with the same treatment. Neither of those stretch much. The dog will absorb more water than the leash will. Jeff

Pocket book for my wife
alpha2 replied to corkscrew's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Ha! Toe2short, I made my wife a nice checkbook cover, then I made another one benefiting from what I learned on the first one. "Oh, I love that one! Is it mine?". Um, yeah, it is. Sure. Hint: There's a pattern here. Jeff -

Western Holsters and Adjustable Sights
alpha2 replied to bradkincaid's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yes! You have to be very careful to make sure that you see that the slide STAYS forward when forming a holster for the semi-auto. It won't do it, if you don't make it do it! In fact, make sure to jam it in there to give it just a bit more room. Jeff -

Western Holsters and Adjustable Sights
alpha2 replied to bradkincaid's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I can see where that would happen, unless you formed it appropriately when making the holster. Those adjustable sights tend to have some sharp square corners. -

It's called a trigger snap, or swivel trigger snap. -

One more thing, if you can leave a little extra room under (away from the fold) the end of the barrel/ejector rod housing, it allows the front of the barrel to move away from the fold as the gun is drawn. As you're drawing with the grip, well below the bore-line, the sight will naturally move away from the fold a bit. Jeff -

Take some tape and wrap it around the jaws of needle nosed pliers, to protect the leather, and use that to correct the way the bleed knot lays. They should look symmetrical. If you pull the bleed knots tight, all you need is a couple of stitches in the end tab, or a rivet to keep it in place. Also, if you keep the bleed knot close to the snap hook, you don't need stitching at all at that end. You really don't need to do anything with the tab, but it looks more finished if you tack it down. Veg tan works fine for leashes, but you need to condition it. I use a mixture of neetsfoot oil, parrifin and beeswax. Wipe it on well and let it soak in. Nice and soft and fairly water-resistant. Yours looks good for a first one! Jeff -

I recently made one for a Kindle Oasis, I can post pics if you're interested, can't be that much different. Jeff

Then the sequence should be...light coat, dry completely, LIGHT sanding with fine sandpaper, then burnish, then repeat the sequence. Also, you could try burnishing in one direction only, instead of back and forth. Sometimes you get leather that likes it that way. Jeff

sounds like you may have put it on too thick. A few thin coats, drying well between coats, and a light sanding between coats should help.

Hey, I started on a keychain, keep practicing, and checking into this forum, and watch as many videos as you can fine on this forum! Jeff

How did you get into leather work?

Glad to see you're back at it, Redcrane! Where is that MLB breaching the surf? Jeff -
thanks for the pictures of the straps. It looks like a type of bleed knot, I've only done them with slots, not round holes, but I'll have to try that. Jeff
