Second sheath, a lot like the first sheath.
alpha2 replied to alpha2's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks, guys! And, yeah, the wife asked if it was boring...nope! Enjoyed every moment of it. I would have liked a different take on the sheath, though. I did get to use everything I learned on the first one, though! Except for the amount of thread needed. Totally forgot how much I needed for the thickness involved. Wasted a lot of the yellow I had left. Need to order more. (I HATE to run short part way through a stitching run.) -
that's why I asked. I had a jacket from Tijuana. If it got even slightly wet, you didn't want to be in the same building with that thing.

Second sheath. It looks a lot like the first sheath, because the first sheath showed up at the Harley riders VFW club. Next request for one was immediate. That's a good thing, right? Second request was for one "just like the first one". Not as much fun for me, it was like I'd been there before. It was a different knife though, so that was nice. First pic is the first sheath, second pic is today's completion.

Where did the leather come from? And nice touch to match the stitching to the watch face!

Well, 3/8" is way more than I would need, thanks for your expertise!!

Thanks, Matt! "That's what she said". No, really, she did say that. Then she said, "ya know, if it was a little bigger, I could put my glasses in there, and my sunglasses, and my checkbook, and..." Like we didn't know THAT would happen, right?

Looks good! Autocorrect is what I first thought! Marginally off topic, I understand the G26 and G27 are the same for holster purposes, is that correct? I have a G26 that is screaming for a leather holster. Also, are there NINE holes in that belt for the buckle??? I'm retiring in 195 days, and may have to alter the number in my future belts. I didn't know that was a retired thing.

What kind of wattage is needed to cut thin plastic? Thinking of templates for wallet parts.

It's not sewn in. It's a Hunter Holsters pocket holster. She uses it in her purses because it's flat on the sides and bottom of the back "no-print" piece, so it rides grip-up. The leather is 3.5oz, some kind of finished side from the Tandy sale table. It could use something slightly more stiff, but she wanted it really light. And...I had it on hand. Oh, and I bought these holsters before I got into leatherwork. It's not like I couldn't make these myself now! Least amount of stitching on any holster I've seen.

Good to know.

Knife Sheaths, etc.

thanks! -
Wow, 3.5 square, mo betta! Now I'm seriously thinking about one. I can see where 40w is better than 1500mw. How much do u suppose is needed to etch leather?

Knife Sheaths, etc.

So, what size is the one that isn't a sheath? I can't tell if it's 1" or 6'. Pretty cool, though! You know, for something that isn't a sheath. I like the colors. What is the greenish inlay on the one that is a sheath? -
Sez it'll do 1.5"x1.5", perfect for a wallet! And it's practically free. Relatively speaking, what I mean is I was shocked it's less than 150 bucks. I'm trying to think of why I need one now.

Thank you! The color on my computer is a pretty good representation of the actual color. You never know what a color will look like on a different monitor. When we painted the living room, my wife tried to use the online color selector from the paint company. I showed her what it look like on two different monitors, she decided to do it with the actual paint at the store!

I figured I had to try one eventually, and my trophy wife indicated a desire for something small, cross-body, lightweight, that would carry her Ruger LCP, 3 cards, a bit of cash, and keys. Oh, and an i-Phone. Mission accomplished. It took a bit of design, re-design, re-re-design, to make it small and lightweight. In the picture, the front flap looks huge, it's actually the same width as the back of the bag. I'm thinking of tapering it after it makes the top bend. The additional sleeve is very thin, and will carry the cards and cash either in the bag itself, or in the rear pocket. The outer bag stitching got a little erratic on the back side. I didn't particularly like doing the corners on the gusset. I did this type of construction so I could try an inner and an outer join of the gusset to the bag. Basically taught myself as I went along. I did do a small practice corner for the front overlap corner. Good thing, it was a challenge. Okay, I took another picture of the bag, from an angle. It doesn't look at all like the picture above where the flap looks huge, it's actually not bad in person. The flap stays. The boss sez she likes it that way.

Just when you think that you've discovered all the ways to damage a piece of leather...along comes the slugs!

Now that is some deep tooling! Great work. Nice buckle set, too. -
Cross body bag.

"Had to have the wife hold the bag along with the stitching pony.lol " I didn't know that was a thing! That would have helped with the one I'm doing for my wife right now. As it is, I took out the tensioning bolt to give me more room below the clamp. Jenny went with the red thread, too. I'm toying with the idea of adding a rivet to the strap attachment, too. The glue/stitching is pretty darned strong, though. The antique finish on yours looks great. -
"Vintage scraper/chopper"...Ha! I love it when people don't have a clue what they have! A round knife for 22 bucks!

Glock Pancake Holster
alpha2 replied to Mattsbagger's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice Matt. I've got a G19 that needs a new holster now. And the G17...maybe the G26. Oh, boy, here we go again! -
Maybe put a little more weight on the divider? The thread is going to hide the line anyway, right? Just a thought.

I use a couple of self healing mats for most cutting that involves a cutting wheel. (Olfa, etc.) Really tight cuts can mess up those mats, but relatively straight cuts are fine. For severe cutting, I use a poly board. Hole punches etc. I use the Poly board with a piece of leather underneath.

Latest Project
alpha2 replied to JimBilt's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Outstanding! What is it with people...like me, that continue to use a wallet until it falls apart? I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. When I actually took a good look at it, I was amazed at how worn it was. I wouldn't be surprised if I'd had that one for 15 years or more. I made one for my brother also, and he said the same thing. -
Rifle Scabbard Christmas Present

Very nice! Ya wanna hunt in my backyard? I'm good with it, but the city and neighbors might have a different opinion.
