I just tried Hide House for the first time. They transposed two numbers on the part number for my 7/8 premium tooling double shoulder, sent Tobacco 9/8 dbl shoulder, I caught it when I saw their tracking info, called them and just missed the fedex pickup, but they cancelled the delivery and immediately sent the proper stuff...or so I thought. It was labelled 7/8, but it was about 50% or more 5/6, the most of the rest 6/7, with only the top right corner actually 7/8. Trying to decide what to do now. I don't need almost an entire order of 5/6 - 6/7, I have that, I need a double shoulder of at least mostly 7/8! What has been your experience with the weight of the leather being at least mostly what you need, and ordered?

Doesn't look familiar, seems uninspired...wouldn't choose it, myself. BTW, all 71, 179 members don't check in on the same day...just sayin'. (But, you knew that.)

I got nuthin'! Looks great to me. I like the detail on the belt loop, that often gets neglected. -

It's nice that you can try it without a large expense. Egyptian Leather sells small amounts, that's what I did to test colors and sizes. If I'd had to buy a large amount right off I probably wouldn't have tried it. -

DJole, I found that to be the case when I used unwaxed thread and waxed it myself. Don't have that issue with Tiger. Having said that, some Tiger is much more waxed than others. I think that waxing it yourself just coats the outside, the Tiger seems to be waxed throughout. I could be wrong, but it seems that way to me. It also seems that my self-waxed picks up more dye, or dirt than the factory waxed stuff. -
First Project

Nice scrap project! I love to just look at scrap sometimes and say "I know there's something in there, what is it?" (Occasionally, there isn't anything in there!" Check out the Tandy videos on lacing, there is a technique of going through the corner hole twice when lacing around the corner that will make the spacing more even. Simple but effective. -

I get my Tiger thread and John James needles from Egyptian Leather. He's on this forum. I haven't done any projects yet that used anything less than 0.6mm thread. I believe he has some in 0.4 also, though. VERY satisfied with both the thread and needles, as well as the customer service. -
Looks good to me! I've done 3 of them lately, all to rave reviews, waiting for the orders to flock in. The recipient (neighbor) works at the local vet's office, so this could work out. Did get two more knife sheath orders today, though! More work, but more money, so it's all good!

3 Hole Thumb Break Stiffeners?
alpha2 replied to billymac814's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I had to check my Galco...that's the one. Also, though, the other part of the snap has a plastic head where it would contact the gun. That would be nice to have too. You can bet Galco orders them by the thousands! -

Ray Pohja Master Leather Carver Floral Belt Found

Great luck for you! I've got to start looking in those shops more. I visited a shop in Buffalo, Wyoming this summer and found a half dozen belts, but I was only looking for the buckle sets, and the belts were bare. And, not that good either. Time to kick up the search! Thanks for sharing. -
Well, I would, but my flux capacitor is inop, presently. And, there's that jigawatt thing.

Sheaths, studs and frogs ?
alpha2 replied to Boriqua's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
You know, I recall wondering that when I first saw this. The four holes in the strap seem to match those in the loop, but then... -

I strain the Resolene. And everything that I spray. A little time spent before, saves a LOT of time when you're trying to spray. -
I've been planning on doing just that for a while. I just keep plugging away with my little thing from Tandy. Problem is, I don't have any place to store something that big, and the little one just sits on the side of my desk, always ready to go. You scored a nice piece, and for the right price!

My thoughts exactly on both the sheath and the blade. Wow. -
First airbrush attempt
alpha2 replied to alpha2's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Problem solved. I tightened down the head a bit more, and it's flawless now. I tested it with some more from the same jar of dk. brown mix, like buttah'. So I sprayed some resolene/water on a knife sheath, the holster, and a recent belt. WooHoo! I'm on a roll...like buttah'. -
First airbrush attempt
alpha2 replied to alpha2's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I guess "head" is the proper term. This part may have been just a bit loose. Not sure, I'll be checking it out soon. I'd seen that video at some point, I didn't realize who had done it. When I saw the part about the pattern, I thought "this guy is trolling JLS, that's funny as heck!" Now that I see it's him, it's even funnier. Not surprisingly, the instructions for laying out a pancake style holster worked out perfectly. I reduced the extra leather around the belt holes a bit just to make the holster less massive, it's for a skinny chick. -

I tried the #1 tip that came with the airbrush, the same that you have, Paasche VL. I may try it again today, since it works for you. Thinking back, I noticed that the nut was rough, compared to the #2 that was on the brush new. I may have not tightened it enough to the brush, which would likely prevent the siphon action. As I recall, the magic mix was 60/40 beeswax/neatsfoot oil, then added the paraffin later when I read about it on this forum. The consistency is like that of "waxy butter"...for want of a better description! Thanks for the replies and tips, guys and gals! Jeff
