  1. The ONLY reason I can come up with to carry that much .45acp ammo would be a serious 3-gun stage. In which case, ditch the 1911 and get a G17, or G19 with G17 mags, or ANYTHING ELSE. I get it, people love 1911's. I LOVE my 1911, but I don't use it for 3-gun. I'm guessing this dude has a belt rig AND a chest rig for 12ga shells, too. Plus, 6-mags per side for .223/5.56 carbine. Remember, you're not just building mag rigs, you're also designing, engineering and building mock ups for the same. Before you even begin making the actual mag rigs. Are you being paid for that?
  2. Excellent!!! I wish my first belt looked that good! Just curious...is that egyptian blue thread?

Do what fly-fishermen do with a new vest...drag it behind a truck on a dirt road for a couple of hours. "Instant experience".

I'll bet y'all thought I was kidding! He was a huge hit with the kids at fly-ins. And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread...
  5. mikesc, I'd like to see that step by step thing!
  6. Nice! What are you using for color? I noticed that some of the bracelets have color in the inside, too. Any particular reason for that?
  7. Hmmm, BHPshooter...wouldn't have guess that. I'm still looking forward to shooting one someday. I would think it would somewhat like a 1911, but with even more cachet!
  8. I didn't know what an "eased" zipper is. Is it one that is circular instead of straight? Could be a Canadian term? That is an awsome backpack, nonetheless!!! I have to try piping the joints sometime, I'm just terrified of it.
  9. I was actually approached about this feature recently. Pull-tab, card pops out. This could be the next big thing. I doubt it, though, as my cut-outs, and others, accomplish the same thing, with a lot less complexity, and similar results. Still, it is catchy, and does work.
  10. Fascinating! I wish I had one of those here in town.
  11. I had an issue with Hide House as to leather thickness. Not what it was labelled as. Ordered 7-8, leather was shown as that, but was 5/6/7 for the most part. I kept it 'cause it was a nicer piece of leather than the 5/6 I already had.
  12. I use these to transfer, and they're graduated, so easy to measure. CHEAP, like 7 or 8 bucks for 100.
  13. It sounds like it isn't veg tanned leather. Other leathers with a surface treatment aren't designed to accept dye.
  14. Glock 19 and 1911, which both can come with or without a luggage rack. Keep that in mind. The rail will affect the fit of the holster. One without a rail will likely fit a holster made for a rail, but not the other way around. I have a 19 I can use for a mold, but it's a gen 2, no rail. My 1911 also doesn't have a rail, so again, somewhat limiting. It's also a Commander length slide. I guess I need to buy more Glocks and 1911s...
  15. I've only broken one needle, a Tandy. I bought some James needles right after that and haven't broken one since. As to the difficulty in pulling the needles through, I do what Capt. Q does, press the awl through a few holes, stitch, do a few more, repeat.
  16. Nice holster. The only one I've made that I wish was a flat back, was for a 3914 Smith for a student that was pretty petite. I'm afraid that when the 50/50 gets pulled around her waist, it might be too snug on the gun. I did make it just a bit looser than normal for that reason, she hasn't complained.
  17. If you're surprised at the construction of these uber-stylish major designer bags, you have remember, their target demographic wouldn't be caught dead with one of these bags "next season". I hate to imagine how many of these my "oh-so-trendy" sister-in-law has in her closets, because they are not the latest style. They couldn't care less how long they last. The secondary market isn't going to be spending any money with them anyway.
  18. If you have an item that will get a LOT of wear, don't think the spray will get in deep enough to not show the raw leather. Swab or dip it. If it won't get that kind of wear, go ahead and spray it. On belts, I always put the dye on pretty heavy, so when the belt wears, it doesn't wear to the raw, lighter leather.
  19. Strength is a good thing to worry about. After putting my first ever molded sheath into use, I've learned that strength means more than just carrying it on your belt. It also has to take into consideration what happens when you catch it on the arm of a chair or seatbelt, etc. This is my first attempt at a wet molded sheath for my EDC knife. I can't believe I haven't ripped it apart yet, because I've certainly tried! Knowing what I know now, I would have made the leather thicker, and maybe made the stress relief holes a bit bigger. Live and learn!
  20. WOW! That is a lot smaller than I thought. Scale is everything...Unless you have Andre the Giant hands.
  21. That's what I figured. Doesn't show in the pics. The gusset is your friend! (Until you have to cut/sew/lace it).
  22. Did you do anything to keep the blade from cutting into the lace?
  23. THERE'S the info we needed, I told you someone would be along! Thank God for this forum.
  24. I hear ya'! WB8YYG here, but was a Radioman in the Coast Guard in the '70's. (When men were made of steel, and ships were made of...well, mine was aluminum). "And now, back to your previously scheduled program!" (Do they still say that?)
