Cheyenne type gun rig
battlemunky replied to WyattEarp's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That gun is beautiful! It's hard to take something like that and do it justice but you did @WyattEarp. Exquisite. -
Looks like you nailed it to me.

Burnishing multiple leather edges

More excellent examples Mike! Are you using a roller for the texture in the middle or a stamp? If you are stamping, that is some amazing consistency across the work.

Motorcycle seats get tooled all the time and while a little definition is lost, not much is. I've seen some motorcycle seats after 20 years of near daily driving that are worn and faded but still well defined. Think of old saddles, worn but still defined and then think of the seat being in the cab of a truck getting less exposure to direct sunlight and the elements than saddles and bike seats. My guess is that it'd hold up better. I could be wrong though. Edit: I went back and looked at the Misfit Skinny's work again and was blown away again...man, that is some work, all with his own style.

@AndyL1, Not sure if you are on Insta, but sunflower leather is ridiculously popular on there right now. Sell, sell, sell! -
Handmade Leather Backpack
battlemunky replied to annaemch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That is quite nice! -
Also, if you are using it to tape down onto the leather and use it like a template then you want to cut the pattern a bit larger and then cut directly on the line. I find it makes it easier to cut straight like that than to hit the outside of a paper edge.

Same here. Can't see them. @TVvoodoo please paste them in directly when you get the chance. ***DISREGARD** @LatigoAmigo FIFY!***

Desperately need advice for quality hand tools!
battlemunky replied to TravisRising's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
If you are just going to be making the items you mentioned, I'd say a set of wing dividers, a good diamond awl (again, Barry King comes to mind, but there are others), a dinner fork can work in place of chisels/irons, a #1 or #2 edge beveler, a piece of antler for a slicker, and for the love of god...John James #2 needles. That will make everything you listed. When you can make them pretty with the aforementioned, you can add to your repertoire of tooly goodness. All of those bushcrafty items can be a little thicker and clunkier so I don't know if you need a skiver. And Weldwood or Barge cement. A good cemented welt is a beautiful thing. -
Free Sample of "Dyes-True" Leather
battlemunky replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Totally, yes. But if we all got on board, it'd all phase out eventually. I'm getting close to not needing to care (retirement is 16 years away) but I'd still take on the extra burden. The fact is that there are so many people that think it is hard to do when fractions (not tenths, like metric) are wayyyy harder. While we're at it, lets stop springing forward and falling back. *yells at cloud* -

I think we 'Muricans need to get on board with the rest of the world and embrace the metric system...soooo much easier. -
Natural Veg Tan Laptop Bag
battlemunky replied to AndyL1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I don't know how I missed this but that looks great! I hope you are able to get some shots as the patina progresses and the bag ages. I'm gonna do one in plain vegtan because of this.
