  1. Here lies Teleweezel's pinchy fingers. May they rest in piece. I can't feel my fingertips after shading and backgrounding a piece a fourth that size from a month or so ago. I tend to (clearly) hold the tool way too hard. That looks great! You gonna paint it or dye it or just leave it to patina with time?
  2. I don't have any help to give but I would think that if you went to the local gun shop and asked, they'd have no problem letting you and I'd also use it as an opportunity to get your name and face out there so they know where they can get and/or send folks to for all their leathery needs. That may be a good thing to try as I see it. Also, as a consumer of all sorts of things, I have zero guilt NOT buying stuff from a vendor. I vote with my wallet and I try to avoid larger purchases without a lot of thought. Asking won't hurt.
  3. That's a really nice find and a really nice gifting! Congrats on the new sister.
  4. That handle material is called C-Tek. http://www.compositecraftinc.com/C-TEK.html Completely unaffiliated, just posting for information's sake. :-)
  5. That is a really cool design. The small imperfections here and there you'll work out as you make more stuff. Keep it up!
  6. https://www.amazon.com/Dow-ILJILU-284yrd-Leather-Stitching/dp/B07W13FM7G/ref=sr_1_12?crid=16ZKJEOCD36RW&keywords=waxed%2Bpolyester%2Bbraided%2Bthread%2Bfor%2Bhand%2Bsewing%2Bleather&qid=1567559921&s=gateway&sprefix=hand%2Bsewing%2Bthread%2Bleather%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-12&th=1 I use this stuff. It is cheap and strong but it stretches a little compared to Tiger thread. I can't complain too much about it. They have a burgundy in the mix.
  7. I really dig those sheathes you been making lately man. That lined look has me intrigued. I need to make a sheath for an ESEE Laser Strike that I'm thinking I may line...and its all your fault!!!
  8. I looked at the sale and thought really hard about it earlier when I got the email reminder. I have run out of room and really don't NEED more crap. Saving 25% on anything is super tempting. If my dog offered me a turd @25% off I'd think about it. I do have to drive past it in a few minutes..... So.Torn. Damned American consumerism.
  9. I think that is lizard but I could be wrong. Regarding the strap, flip it 180 degrees so it is pointing toward the back and it won't get hung on nearly as much stuff (assuming it is right handed).
  10. I picked up an older heavy duty Kenmore in the hopes it would be able to sew leather. It can't. Only out 15 bucks so not a huge loss, plus Mrs. Munky has a second machine now. I wrestle with getting a machine but until its dialed in, it seems like a lesson in frustration with all the different tensions.I'm lucky I like to hand stitch :-) I'm glad you were able to get some practice in with it and those folded edges look like you had a binder so well done Plink!
  11. I think I may get a cheater bar for mine as well, the handle that comes with it is a bit short and with a longer lever arm you can likely get some more effort out of it...it IS HR though, so maybe overclocking it ain't the best idea.
  12. Great gift idea and even better being able to up-cycle some roadside leather. Looks great to boot!
  13. I have the 1 ton arbor press from HF too. Works fine on my 1" maker's stamp. If I'd have had the chance though I'd have grabbed that 6 ton. The arbor press is handy for quick rivets too though, not sure if the bottle jack one is or not, may be a bit more ass than desired for things like those rivets.
  14. I wouldn't sweat that at all. The leather layman won't even notice.
  15. Good on ya! Post up your haul and any stuff you make with it once it arrives :-) Have a good vacation @Tyra!
  16. Agreed, superb. I think I'm going to line the next sheath I make because of that rollover. I like it!
  17. Ton of work and nice too! I really hope he's gonna wear undies
  18. Great compliment to each other. You really nailed that basketweave too.
  19. I like them all, and I think your price is good, personally, I just don't need another awl.
  20. Dude at the monument shop said 120 lbs. I agree with him...it doesn't even really like to scoot.
  21. Thanks everyone! It's going in a box to await her other Christmas presents. My wife is making her a body pillowcase with floppy flowers all over it (my son is in the USN and will be gone all the time so she'll have a snuggle buddy) and my daughter is making her a crocheted blanket for laying on the couch.
  22. Had a chance to pick up a 4"thick 1' x 2' slab o' granite today. The darker streak in it made it unusable as a headstone so the monument company let me take it for $20. Now I hope my bench can hold it. I may need to reinforce it. My old 1" 1' x 1' is to the right of it.
