  1. That does look good! Are the ez rivets holding up? I've always been afraid of them and opt for burr rivets even though they are overkill most of the time.
  2. I gotta admit, I'm digging that embroidery thing you got going on. Really neat.
  3. That is really cool @lovetocreate!
  4. Thanks @Northmount, that snag is appreciated!
  5. Yeah man, you got the knack fuh sho! Beautiful yet again Ryan!
  6. Maverick is pretty good too. I found that the Hermann Oak and Wickett and Craig are less expensive than Tandy stuff unless you catch Tandy during a sale. Not to mentionthe quality boost. If you've never used HO or W&C, I'd recommend it. I still have 100 feet or so of Tandy 8/9 oz I'm working through, so don't feel too bad or that you've been swindled. Your piece doesn't really look bad at all and only you and other leatherfolk are going to notice. If it irks you too much, discount it a bit @pattyharrington but I wouldn't.
  7. Laser decorations may not be traditional but they are certainly crisp and are a HUGE wrench to have in your toolbox. That looks great @LatigoAmigo! Clean and sharp. Your color choice and construction look really well done too
  8. Maybe looks like the cow had a bout of bugs or some skin ailment like chicken pox but for cows? Since the skin is healed up and processed it may not come to light until it is dyed. Think about it kind of like wood grain that you can't see until you apply stain. That's my shot at it. Hopefully someone with experience seeing that will see the thread and comment. It may not be perfect like you were anticipating but it still looks good and has some added character!
  9. That looks awesome. Design, contrasting thread, and the shark...that thing is all sorts of badass.
  10. Cool work following the edge near the hilt! Looks good!
  11. Well done and looks really heartfelt, she'll love that for a long time to come I'm sure!
  12. The truth^^^^
  13. I believe it is miscible. It should work before or after Sno-seal. There are oils in Sno-seal so it is all part of the family.
  14. Any leather could potentially bleed depending on the dog's exposure to water. If you have a swimmer, you may see some bleeding no matter the leather. It'll eventually stop at some point and it'll also eventually wear off the dog too You should be ok if you go with pre-dyed leather but just know that you could see some bleeding if the dog is a swimmer.
  15. I used one of those pretty extensively and there are far better people friendly means of closing a bag in my opinion. Once I was no longer bound by regulations to use it, I set it aside for a better bag just because of the closure. They are durable, that's about the only reason. They are hard as hell and poke everything and bruise hands and ribs, etc.
  16. Youda man @LederRudi, thanks for the details!
  17. You could jump in on a wallet but that is maybe a bit lofty for some first projects. Having the template is a huge advantage. Leather can be quirky so you may want to go ultra easy like some key chains or bookmarks and such so you can get used to cutting and edging, etc. Then work your way up to a sewn slip wallet or two (or10), then a long wallet. Sewing is usually a hurdle until you get a few hundred feet of thread through some holes. I've heard from a few folks on here to make 10 of something. I've done this myself. Then dive into something else. Also, YouTube is your friend!
  18. Really nice work!
  19. It was easy enough. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me There are a whole lot of other talented folks on here that can help as well! I'd definitely look at making the eyes less round next time.
  20. Yeah, I'm stealing the guide too....
  21. Yeah, hobby level, Tandy is better than playing pretend, but as @NVLeatherWorx pointed out, it isn't ideal for "nice" stuff. You can make some durable items with it still but reproduceable/reliable to work with, it is not. Also, while the panels at Tandy have a decent flesh side to them, many of the sides have horrible flesh sides, all fuzzy and nowhere close to flat and closed. Be picky and don't order Tandy leather without seeing it in person unless you are cool knowing it can be of poorer quality. Dying "good" leather is tricky enough to get it consistent all the time. If you are wanting consistency, drum dyed leather may be what you are looking for but the same rules apply for the hair side and flesh side. Nice, smooth and free of defects is what can be had. Welcome!
