  1. There's a hole behind the spool pin on top that you put a screwdriver in to turn the screw to the left to loosen the foot pressure. If you loo on the back of the machine you can see the flat spring & where the screw pushes in the middle.
  2. Steve, Glad to hear your back BUT I didn't know you were in the hospital. Hope you mend up quick !!
  3. Yes,those should work.
  4. Art, Thanks for your input,I was on here yesterday afternoon & then this morning (when I noticed it) He has contacted us NOW & said he got his machine this morning so all is well.
  5. Well it's a good thing I look at this board once in a while! It would of been nice if you let me know you had a problem yesterday & I could of called the freight company & try to help. It's not my fault that your having a problem w/a shipper yet if you refuse because of their mistakes they will be billing me for the return trip.Technicially YOU should pay since YOU ordered something & refused it!! I can understand your frustrated SO WHY not call & let me know ??? Luckily for us we hardly have any problems like this with shippers BUT things happen once in a while beyond their control. It's certainally beyond my control,BUT I will call them today & see what's going on.
  6. You might have it threaded wrong or else the TOP tension is to loose. You need to wipe off the foot & foot bar b4 u start sewing w/a paper towel after oiling. It's best to leave something under the foot to catch the oil.It will stop soon.
  7. The 16,17 & 18 should all be the same since they are all like a 16 class, the 31 bar is .283 & 91/4" long, the 17 is .283 81/4"long ,the 96-80 is .250 ,6" long Let me know if you need info on anything else.
  8. Uwe,that is a Pearson,not a landis#1 in our showroom.We do not have any Landis#1 parts or needles.
  9. I'm glad to hear ur making some stitches. The spool isn't supposed to spin. You are supposed to pull the thread off the top of the spool so it doesn't have any drag.
  10. There's 4-screws that fasten the head to the stand, take them out & it's a lot easier to go up steps with. Also less prone to breakage in transport.
  11. You can't on most Ind types you wind the bobbin while sewing, that's why the threadstand holds 2-spools.
  12. Gary,A problem like this is almost always a threading issue. Is the thread through 2-holes in the spool pin on top? This puts alittle pre-tension on the thread to help it stay in the first tension as your sewing and are you sure it's wrapped around the 2nd tension 1 & 1/2x ?
  13. There's a screw in the center of the wheel(look from the outside) rightside, that is probably holding it on.
  14. Try #23 needle w/207,are you using the S point?
  15. You might be able to loosen the foot pressure knob on the top left hand corner of the machine will help, these marks can also be rubbed out w/a spoon.Be careful you don't loosen it too much or the machine will start skipping stitches.
  16. When you turn the machine backwards it's possible to jam the thread up in the hook(bobbin case) it won't happen everytime & you might need to turn it backwards alttle if you over run when you wanted to stop. The main thing to do & try to always stop & start with the take up lever @ the highest point.
  17. Yes turn the speed up a little,on some of these motors when you turn down the speed it reduces the starting torque .
  18. Any oil is better than no oil.
  19. Years ago when I first started repairing sewing machines my neighbor wanted me to look @ his mothers machine.I went there & it was a real old White treadle machine. So I looked it over oiled it,threaded it & started to sew & it started getting tighter,so I oiled it again & then it tied up & wouldn't turn. The she started yelling to him in Italian & he started getting upset w/me saying she thought I ruined her machine.I didn't know what to do so I said let me take it with me & fix it.She didn't like the idea but he convinced her it'll be ok.So I took it to work & told the old mechanic what happened & he just started laughing & thought it was really funny. Then he said that's what happens after years of 3 in 1.It builds up a waxing shellac type of crap in the bearings & when I oiled it it expanded & tied it up.He said take to kerosene & put in the bearings,so I did & it freed up.Took it back & she was smiling when I left.So after that I don't want to think about using 3 n1 on anything.ATF,motor oil, gear lube isn't good for most machines either,if it drips off the machine onto what your sewing it'll stain. It is best to use clear sewing machine oil or mineral oil.Even then if someone has used the wrong oil n the past it might stain for a while until it gets worked out of the machine.
  20. Wow Tinker that looks great! Here's our not so fancy setup a 12-24 screw w/a nut on it about 2&1/2" long and a drill. We often need to wind different sizes so this works great for us.
  21. Nice looking machine.The 16 cl needlebar #2050 is 183 mm long
  22. I just thought I'd show these machines off. The smallest one is Singers first model of Industrial Machine & then in later models they had a longer arm,The longest machine is a model3-1,the shorter one in the middle they called standard. All 3 models used a wooden pitman arm to run them instead of a belt.I do have the treadles for them & they don't treadle real easy.
  23. Yes,the singer 16 is .285 BUT the 34K we have here measures .373 & is like a 45K upper arm?I noticed yours is a SV maybe that's why?
  24. Turn up the radio, the gears always make a noise on these machines.
  25. There is a hole behind the spool pin on top of the machine that you put a screwdriver in & turn to the left to loosen. If you look @ the back of the machine you can see the long flat spring & where the screw makes contact w/it.
