    You have a good point, I was just thinking of a wet iron clamp turning solid oak black,as any wood worker knows.

    Interesting I wonder if you could just use distilled water to rust and suspend the iron salts. It would take take longer but so what?

    For checkering Google "Brownells checkering files" They are a little pricey but should last a life time.

    Jeff!!! great to see you at least check in once in a while. I for one have missed your insight and humor. One vid I'd like to see is you explaining your great "holster pattern making theory" its such great info that can be used for a lot more than just holsters. A vid would be very useful because although you explain it well I must admit I had to reread it a couple times before I really got it, and I think others might give up and miss out on some terrific techniques. Now THAT would be good quality lernin

    Hi Kenl, Barge cement if allowed to dry well before wetting the leather will still do a good job when two pieces are put together.

    They both look great, except for the finish as you pointed out. I really like the color of the Rem. holster.

    Light, light, light. You cant have enough! I've worked in several shop type settings and the one thing they had in common was that no matter how much room you start with you WILL get cramped soon enough. So some sort of extra storage aria comes in real handy, an attic, or basement is best IMHO. It helps with the empty flat surface problem ( where they always seem to be covered with stuff). Oh ya and light!

    There are also veg tan in goat, sheep, pig just to name a few. The sheep is fairly soft tempered with goat a little stiffer. The thickness will have a lot of influence too.You might contact one or two of the companies that advertise at the top of the forum pages and see about some sample swatches.

    That's cool! Kind of looks like it sits in a place of honor too. I only brought mine in when we were getting a big storm.
