I have asked this question on Reddit leatherwork without luck, so i try here instead. I use both vegetable tanned leather and chrome tanned leather. What conditioner do I need? Right now i'm using Sedgwick leather care for vegetable tanned leather, but with bad results. After applying and drying i buff the leather with a dry soft cloth. But after a short period brown and black leather becomes "white" in the bottom of the grain. And i have to clean it again (with saddle soap) and after that the finish is nice. But i would like some protection. I plan on buying Saphir renovateur and a horse hair brush for my chrome tanned leather, does it also work on vegetable tanned leather? So question 1. What am i doing wrong with Sedgwick? and 2. Can i use Renovateur for both chrome tanned and vegetable tanned leather. and just clean with a slighty damp sponge before?

I can't really help you with a solution. But DON'T use acetone. Acetone are going to remove not only the glue, but the dye. Take some acetone and rub it on a piece of pre dyed/paint finished or the leather of your choice and you will se that you remove the paint. If there is any solutions for this problem involving acetone then it would have to be diluted, but i don't you can use acetone in any way to solve this. (If i'm wrong someone gonna tell here.)

Anyone with experience with Renias solvent based glues.
Danne replied to Danne's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I asked Renia. And it seems like either Top Fit or Colle De Cologne is the most versatile for me (veg tan, chrome tanned, exotics and maybe some waxy/oily. Top Fit is not/less "stringy" Colle is a little better on waxy/oily leather. Top fit also works on wet leather without letting it dry. (For example when/if you mold) -

Thank you, Have you tried Top Fit on oily waxy leathers? I did a test with Aquilim 315, i glued two pieces of leather together and after drying i put them in water for 15 minutes. Believe it or not the bond is as strong as before -
I use the water based Renia Aquilim 315 and Aquilim SG, and i'm happy with those two. But in some situations i need a solvent based glue, one example is if i line something without glue (Like this card case i did a while ago, and i used Colle de Cologne to glue the lining.) But i have a hard time to decide a solvent based glue. I have most of Renias glues (Suitable for this type of work) , and i have tried them on veg tan and chrome tanned leather, and i think they behave very similar. But i wan't the most versatile glue, i guess some of those solvent based glues are better on oily leather and so on. I would appreciate some help to choose one of those. I would prefer to have two glue pots. One with water based (Aquilim 315) and one with a solvent based glue. And aquilim SG i can use directly from the can, since it's easy to rinse the brush in water afterwards. (I use SG for paddings on watch straps, and i guess it would be a good choice for zippers in the future, since it has an instant bond, but it's a temporary bond. It bonds to almost everything, flesh to grain, i even glue paddings to my granite plate så i can shape it easier.

Hi everyone, As the title i'm looking for some leather in Europe. Right now i'm using Vegetable tanned leather from Tärnsjö tannery in Sweden, which I have to split at another company. It would be nice to buy leather in a couple of different colors, in 1mm thickness. (Colors like Dark brown, cognac, black and maybe navy.) The only choice I have found so far is La Perla Azzurra Dakota, but it's not the leather i'm looking for (http://www.venditapelle.it/department/4/Articoli-con-Finitura.html) so i need to find more alternatives. And my second question is if anyone know of any source for Haas Zermatt lining leather in Europe. The only place i've found it is in US. The price is ok, since i'm only would use it to line watch straps, but if you count up shipping and import duties it becomes pretty expensive. https://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/haas-zermatt-calf-leather-3-0-oz-1-2mm-made-in-france

Prada-inspired Handbag

Yes i agree, if someone told me "Hey, i'm going to make a Prada inspired bag, should i paint the edges or not." My answer would be "Of course you should paint them, it would look awful if you leave the edges "natural" But on this handbag it looks REALLY good. It gives the bag a very unique look. The reason it suits the bag is probably because of the outside color. You should be proud of that bag -

Wallet and watch strap
Danne replied to Petewon's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I can't figure out how you attached the middle part. Your edges looks very straight. If they where skived it would look like in my picture. Maybe you do like i show in my picture!?, but it looks like you have a better solution for this. If you have the time to explain it would be much appreciated be a beginner Picture from the short edge of the wallet.- 19 replies

This is the three most commons versions of pockets i've seen. The first one is usually really thin like 0.35mm x2 and the folded edge attaches under the next pocket for durability. The second one is the one without t-pockets where the part hidden behind the next pocket skivs really thin. And the third one is the most common (from what i've seen.)
