On Ebay you can often find leather offcuts at very low prices in a assortment of different colours or leather types, YouTube also has video's on making watch straps which may tell you what leather that person is using Enjoy

Thanks for that, but raises another question on how you get the two walls, as i have not come across this so far in 3d Printing

They sound like they are not junk but do a good job, but not maybe as well as higher costs machines and like all machines have there limits, I don't know but i assume he gave them away as a bonus for work the other machines either could not do or found it hard to do, no machine does everything

Please can you tell me what is the actual mm width as 2 perimeters wide is not a term i am familiar with
-
Nice work, what size is the line width and what filament did you use and height, it looks very sharp, If I was doing it so fine i think i would have used PET-g or something exotic, very impressed

For Christ sake stop putting your fingers and hand under the top whilst its running, only make adjustments when the top is swung away

Sorry i don't see where i am wrong, surly the only job of the pressure foot is to hold the leather down tight until the needle tip has passed the leather clear on the up stroke so the leather can be moved for the next stitch, if the needle sticks and raises the leather with the needle, then the problem lies with the pressure being to week

Just remember the old days, no need for umpires you walked when you were out, no bouncers it was not the game, no talking yet alone sledging, a game for honest gentleman We lost so much by being modern and allowing it to happen Under 50 you probably don't understand what you lost

Can you put more pressure on the feet to hold it down a bit more

Needle is puncturing not cutting my hard leather

You can buy needles especially for leather that cut there way through -
Maybe connected to Brexit Fred, Everything else seems to be blamed on it

After running a number of commercial web sites from 2003 through to 2017, I cam to the simple conclusion about all the apps, Keep it simple and do your own thing, Life is far to complicated just keeping up with required changes to update software you actually need, and most updates are not user friendly, and guaranteed to take far longer than you were informed KISS is the best solution

You ordered some leather, but did not like what came, they offered you the choice of keeping it or returning it, you chose not to return it for your own reasons but then slagged the company off for being crap. Its hard for any company to react different, if you don't return it for them to understand the problem You state its happened over time yet you still order from them and don't send things back to be rectified if possible, the goods that don't meet the expected quality you want.

When I burn 0.6 tiger thread ends it leave's a black mark rather than a clear blob of melted thread, how do i stop this, other threads seem to be a cleaner melt

Nylon may be a better long term filament as stronger and often used in gears etc, now he has the STL file made for the printer just a few hours printing to use another filament

I would suggest you "youtube" Nigel armitage who produces first class video's of how to use the tools, your first steps will be to learn Saddle stitch sewing. The Tandy sites have a good selection of basic patterns and instructions and Etsy.com also offers many patterns with little costs

Often hear that parts are no longer available for sewing machines I can across this site that seems to have a massive selection of gears and wondered if they could be modified to fit some US machines being in imperial sizes rather than european metric, so thought they might be adapted to fit some old machines, I seem to remember that someone said the old 29K machines had problems with some small gears breaking and no longer available Anyway just a thought, the company seems to have a fantastic range of items https://www.mcmaster.com/metal-gears

I would suggest that tiger thread in size 0.6mm may be a thread to considre for the 3mm irons

My new strops.... One might be an original idea?
chrisash replied to bikermutt07's topic in Sharpen it!
I think it comes down to 3D printing, you could design with the knife at the correct angle and extend to a length of curved material so the angle would be right for sharpening say a 15 or 20 degree angle, but probably new one for each different blade size and shape -
I Just Bought a Patcher. Can Anyone Identify it?

That sir is a fantastic design from the height of victorian design (even though german)and should be in a museum as a piece of beautiful design and function, but do enjoy it to the full -
Tried the basics of making it, but the thread was to weak on the table Thread part with the gaps for fixing it's position, maybe with the adjustment of the drill holder it does not need a movable table top, also found out you can but a cutting tool for the Dremel that might be better than rough sanding paper To me the main problem is the printing time, as I am not willing to let it run overnight for safety reasons, already had to change out the XT60 connection as lack of soldering at manufacturing stage ment it was getting exceedingly hot, (now sorted) if nothing else the noise would keep me awake as run at home Think I will put it down, as a good learning lesson especially about shrinkage of difference between threaded nut and bolt in large sizes using PLA, but what does stand out is the low cost of materials and electricity to make quite large potentially useful items, at 72 I am finding technology a wonderful way to keep the grey cells active and the learning of what ""Fusion 360" can do is mind boggling and a great introduction to how far design tools have reached Hopefully made some people think about different ways to do things Chris

And you think industrial sewing machines are expensive
chrisash replied to graywolf's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I brought a Barudan 12 head 7 needle embroidery machine in the 1980's at £44,000 plus I think 15% vat back then with auto thread cutters and ran at 900 stitches per min, Very impressive machine. still probably the same price now days but with each head about 15 needle's and 1500 spm and some now about 20 head Times they do a change -
Try a small area test with a good coating of pure neatsfoot oil, it may give some life and nothing ventured nothing gained, it will darken the leather somewhat, you could also try a good make conditioner
