  1. Like the fine engraving , but the font design style is poor with the link between the r and Y
  2. You dont state where you are living in the world and that may make a difference You can get quite well made far Eastern wallets from £5.00 to £20.00 in England that scoop up the low cost not worried customers and wallets by top end firms at a few £100.00 plus The strange thing about both is that they are all well made by a skilled person, one often by low waged person who just makes on part of the finished product and the other a craftsman who makes the whole item exceedingly well using the worlds best materials and leathers Back to your question, few will pay for a product whilst you learn your trade and skills, but if you keep learning the skills there is no reason why you can't sell after afew months of hard work, but some have the skills to learn very quickly others never get the skills
  3. Nearly every country has a selection of tanneries all making slightly different tanned leather, some are low cost others have been running hundreds of years and very expensive, you just have to look with open mind and see what is best for your own purpose, no one country produces the best leather, in most cases they make what fits there market and if possible export as well
  4. A problem with tests, is that they are normally done on flat fixed leather patches rather than the real use they were intended for so have no bending or stretching like in real life. The old saddle / harness maker / sailor/ bootmaker had years of experimenting on users actually using the product over many years or the full life of the item, something we don't normally get these days
  5. Welcome and enjoy this hobbie, unfortunatly it can often get quite expensive as the more you read on forums like this one the more items you find you must have
  6. Thanks guys I will give the Norsol a try, if it's OK with you guys I am sure it will be with me Pity about Giardini but there loss, great selection but guess not set up for little old England Surprised Dulux does not make it with its colour matching service, but guess not set up to sellsmall size or make acrylic, good business make 5 gallon on day one and it lasts for a couple of years selling in nail polish size bottles with a touch of colouring added
  7. Thanks harry, but they will not let me order without a vat number and being a hobby i dont have one Any other good makes with Royal Blue edge
  8. Looking for UK supplier of a good quality edge dye/paint in Royal Blue, just a small bottle Giardini 1058 would do but cannot find on Google UK
  9. Was the cracking due to the sun and dry climate of LA
  10. Dont know if of any interest to anyone about 15 hours to end of sale https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STITCHING-MACHINE-ATTACHMENTS-FOR-THE-SHOE-TRADE-VERY-SCARCE-VINTAGE-BOOKLET/202556406732?hash=item2f294d7bcc:g:9ZIAAOSwszVb0Lar
  11. Now that's what i call a excellent rebuild, as good if not better than new, well done you must be sorry to be parting with it
  12. No reason your wife cannot use it for normal sewing work and great for quilting, maybe not silks etc but good on denim and heaver poly cotton as well as light leather
  13. Many thanks, that's great information
  14. Just seen this advertised on Ebay. might be interesting for someone https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Junker-Ruh-SD28-Leather-Stitching-Machine/332993906003?hash=item4d87fbc553:g:wzQAAOSwzgtcLeEJ:rk:22:pf:0
  15. The main problem, as I see it, is you have to stand out from the competition in some clear way, It's easy to cast the far east products as rubbish but in fact, many are well made and sold at prices that reflect the low labor costs in that area, to break that, you need marketing to show the world your product is better or perceived to be better, many of the top fashion houses make the same old items year after year which are quality made but questionable if they are really worth 20 or 50 times over what some experts that show on this forum could reasonably get You need to find a niche that you are comfortable with and do it well, but i expect the largest untapped area may be in tooling where skill and design still leave a open playing field Anyone can have a hobby and fool themselves they have a business, but to make it a real business you have to have enough work to pay all the bills and be able to have holidays and a bit but away for future changes you may need to make to stay competitive
  16. Many thanks, any suggestion on the Nylon as Taulman seem to do so many versions/numbers
  17. The OP does not state how much use he/ she see's for this machine but does have a 3200 to do any main work, if and I repeat If he is only looking at light work and not a full time production machine working 8 hours a day 365 days a year then maybe a clone of the Sailrite® Ultrafeed® LSZ‑1 would be a low cost machine that would offer a guarantee, spare parts and do the job, on the other hand as stated there are plenty of other industrial machines second hand to do the job. One thing I have noted is that second hand machines, seem to spend many months sitting around without selling, as people are taken in by advertised prices and seem to think depreciation does not exist for sewing machines, makes you wonder what the difference is between advertised price and actual selling price is apart from a few specialist machines
  18. Many thanks, do you have a make you prefer, there are so many choices and prices, its hard to know if your paying for marketing or quality my trial with nylon was a soft one Taulman 231
  19. Has the bottle been allowed to freeze at any time?
  20. Comfort and Army go together with Military Intelligence
  21. What have you got to lose, even breaking it up for spare parts to sell might be profitable JUst give it a very good clean as far as you can, make sure any oil holes are clear and give it a good oil and then see what it can do, lots of advice on cleaning them up (All types) on this forum
  22. High folk Been reading up on the various filaments as as a new starter have been using PLA for trialing stamps and a bit dubious of using ABS as apparently the smell is rather strong and don't want to leave my spareroom/ workshop smelling if i can avoid it So two alternatives seem to be on offer PETG and also Nylon 12 Wondered if anyone had experience of using either, Stamps will be for use with arbor press so no shock loads Regards and a Happy New Year to all
  23. It's a thingmebob, maybe used for separating very very large spaghetti
  24. Nice video My worry would be the open structure of the laser as a safety point , where as the closed box normally associated with lasers provides near impossible risk, I imagine there may be a slight risk being open when people become complacent with its use Do you think i am seeing something that is not there
  25. I seem to remember a post where i thought someone stated that Chrome leather can give off poisonous gases when used with a laser, Chrome Leather is often used on Clothing, Furniture and Car upholstery among other items. So that would leave Vegetable Tanned Leather that you could use, but you need to check first as i could be wrong
