Fashionary - Bag Design Book
chrisash replied to bermudahwin's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Not very big at 128 pages The british Libary hold a massive selection of books in fact all uk printed books plus many US, If you go to your nearest library some time then they will get you a copy and tell you when its in , may may take about six weeks, or at least it did mine, you pick up and give back at local libary. you may even be able to order online at british library -
Agree with KGG the problem with electronics is they only make them for about 2-3 years and then add the new all singing and dancing version, The end result you have about 3 years of machines plus maybe a years of spares in stock, they are not reparable componant boards so once broken you rely on spares that are probably not available. I can point you to thousands of dead computerised embroidery machines ( elaborate sewing machines) electronics no longer available but mechanically still ok but useless. Any machine before about 2000 has decades of life left, unfortunatly new machines with electronics probably not the same life so will depreciate quicker

There is a double layer each side of the seam Basically sew the two inners to the outer doing the border at the same time. Then sew the inner two parts together when on the pipe and stick the outer to it at the seam hiding the inner seam

Maybe start with a Tandy version and get use to tooling and then after you have used it for a while you will be in a better position to try out the others to feel any benifits they offer or not, in many cases you need experience to be able to make judgements of fine differences and seperate the hype from the reality

Great work, I would have assumed Kangaroo would be to thin the tool, but you did a great job

Beginner Saddle Leather Sewing Machine
chrisash replied to Oelschlagel's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Nearly all sewing machines state that they will sew leather, but what they mean is Chrome leather like that used for leather jackets about 1 mm or slightly thicker. This leather is generally very soft and flexible and therefore very easy to punch through with light thread The leather used for Horse equipment is normally much thicker veg tanned leathers and use much heavier thread to make allowances for the extra strains applied to the stitching and therefore limited to aa selection of heavy duty industrial sewing machines with more powerfull motors such as posted by R8R above -
Also a bugger over the other side of M25 so quite a long trip in hours if not as the crow fly's, for our US friends the M25 is equivelent to driving at 2MPH for 100 miles on a good day called the longest car park in the world

patina Veg Tan Leather Finish (for best patina)
chrisash replied to Turves09's topic in Getting Started
Neats foot oil is very low cost and the standard oil for replacing some of the natural oils taken out by tanning giving a bit more flexibility to the leather, but must be pure neatsfoot oil there is another type compound or something that should not be used, but give it 24-48 hours to dry before you add any other treatment -

Even without the e-commerce your still trying to sell your goods and at present just showing a number of images hidden well down the dispal under gallery, not with some product leads on your home page to catch peoples attention, and no descriptions anywhere You know your market and seem to have enough trade so maybe it does not matter today dont even know if its a full time job or hobbie, but a professional looking site will be guaranteed to get better results, by grabing there attention in the first few seconds before they go to the next search When the going is fine we ignore the future, when the going gets tough we curse not changing before it was history

I may well offend you but your site is quite poor for selling I assume you want customers to buy your products yet they do not have a buying experience, it looks like you sell either Belts or Holsters but the home page shows neither and there are no products to buy or have a good idea of price You really need the home page to have a brief description of who and what you do and some images and links below to full descriptions of what you are offering as basic models. you could have something like a image of a belt with text underneath stating available from $ xxx to $xxx and a link to a page showing a selection Belts all with a description of what they are built with and the benifits to the user. the most basic belt designs can have a fixed price showing and the tooled belts a max and min price with contact details to contact you by email with their requirements Your header looks like a poor copy of your logo without much detail so you find it hard to even read the word leather in the logo There is no method of paying online which is ok if all are made on order, but would make more sales if you had some stock items. it's so easy to do e-commerce these days and people just want to find the product and buy for delivery within a couple of days Break the products up on different pages to standard and tooled or stamped or even three pages per product range Descriptions are what sell. they cannot touch , smell or pick up your items so you need to say what they are Belt hand made and hand sew in the traditional way using the best US leather that has taken over a year to be tanned using the bark of Oak trees, Each belt comes with a solid brass buckle in various designs and has removable screw fastenings so you can easily change the apperance with a different buckle. Belts can be lined or unlines and so on

Is there not another small hook between the needle bar and the needle to hold the thread close to the top of the needle

Progress between sheaths
chrisash replied to fiftycrushplan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
It can help to add a narrow strip of leather spacer around and between the layers so that the blade does not cut the thread, this way the edges are three layers instead of two -
Buying Keestar Sewing Machine 441 Directly From China..
chrisash replied to korokan's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
who mention VAT I was talking about your proposed new tax of 25% from Jan for China Goods. I believe but may be wrong but i think you have always had a import tax on all goods entering the states or nearly all -
Buying Keestar Sewing Machine 441 Directly From China..
chrisash replied to korokan's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Not sure about the USA, but mostcountries already have a import tax on foreign commercial goods so it's not clear if for instance the new tax is original cost plus import tax plus new tax 25% or Original cost plus new tax (25%, which would be significatly different
